Breaking News: The Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act has officially passed Congress and is now heading to the President's desk for signature! TAPS is proud to have joined forces with our partners — the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), The American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) — to advocate for this landmark legislation, which will bring vital benefits to veterans, survivors, and their families. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Chairman Jon Tester, Ranking Member Jerry Moran, Chairman Mike Bost, and Ranking Member Mark Takano for their leadership and hard work in advancing this critical legislation. Outstanding leadership in Virginia elevating one of the most important issues for veterans who have become entangled with the very sticky justice system. Identifying veterans (JLC 2025-01) at the earliest instance can help deflect or divert the veteran from a life of continual court hearings to treatment and accountability for their actions. The Veterans Justice Commission at the Council on Criminal Justice made this their first recommendation two years ago. Read more here to learn about the struggles with identification and the proper way to define Justice involved veterans in order to stop them from falling through the cracks. https://lnkd.in/gYpB2gaz Elizabeth McCoy Danny Murphy Lindsey Kirchhoff

We pay tribute to those who served with unwavering courage and sacrifice, remembering their dedication and valor. Today and every day, we express our gratitude to our veterans for safeguarding our freedom. 🇺🇸 Many of our nation’s veterans face housing insecurity after serving our country. According to The results of the 2023 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count showed that, in 2023, 35,574 Veterans in Texas (or 22 of every 10,000 Veterans in the United States) were experiencing homelessness, a 7.4% increase from 2022. Looking more closely, at an astonishing 97.6%, nearly all Veterans in Texas were experiencing homelessness. This highlights the urgent need for safe, affordable housing solutions that provide stability and support. As we honor veterans, let’s also advocate for accessible housing opportunities for those who have sacrificed so much. Together, we can create a future where no veteran has to worry about where they’ll sleep at night. #SupportOurVeterans #PeopleOfMerced #AffordableHousing #VeteransDay 📸: Pictured are veterans living at Coastal Haven Senior Apartments in Corpus Christi where Merced provided Resident Services. Joining them is Nueces County Judge Joe Benavides, retired U.S. Marine Corps. Read more about veterans experiencing homelessness and recent statistics at https://lnkd.in/gk9ZtJSd.
