Seeking Success Part Twelve: I am reminded of a 1957 Chevy, a real classic. We can restore its luster, add chrome wheels and a host of other customized goodies; however, in the end it is a 1957 Chevy and not a Tesla. One can ask is the Tesla simply an evolution from that old Chevy or is it a revolutionary change? It can drive itself; its engine is different, and it is able to be updated in many ways without returning to the factory. Yet it still moves through the larger world conforming to the rules of the road. Those rules of the road (culture, laws, regulations, and politics) as they apply to schools often stand in the way of major conceptual changes in education’s form and function. So the only option we have is to try to customize (reform) that 57 Chevy. Designing a different vehicle to drive through the 21st Century demands a new vision and a host of divergent skills. As the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga sang, “we are far from the shallows now” when trying to address the breadth of change needed to meet the needs of today’s ever changing demands. But building public education’s version of a “Tesla” has proved so far to be an illusive goal.

I just wathced this posted as "take your time and pause before answering", good idea, but the message is way more important: "Fix the people, don't fix the problem!". I would even take it much further! When I see someone underperforming or struggeling in a team, or in my team, or a team I'm a part of, I don't try to fix that person underperforming or struggeling... Why? Because what needs fixing is the team observing the struggle of someone in the team, and doing nothing or too little to fix it. There could be many root causes of a rotten team, so digging may be needed, but if struggle is something people must do alone, your team is not a good team by any measure.
