Salaries too often amount to entry-level or even intern work, not in recognition of the years spent working hard, growing, and learning as a senior creative. The s*** tone of hiring mistakes. Hiring is something that is always underrated when somebody starts a company. It’s not an easy thing, but it’s literally what makes the difference. All the times that we ended up in not good situations (like a collaboration terminating early), it’s because there were a few elements that were there and were not generating the best feelings. Personally, the top 2 crucial things that I try to do every freaking time are the following: 1) Give a ton of context For example, if you hire a graphic designer, it’s crucially important for him to not be instructed only on the graphic tasks, but to have a global vision of what are: - The mission of the company - The direction - The pillars of the service and what all the departments are doing day-to-day All the people need to be completely aligned on that. We often didn’t consider them important in the past, and we were wrong. 2) Have a clear roadmap With a “roadmap” I mean: - Actions that are expected from the person that you hire If you’re giving these people a clear expectation term or the outcome to be achieved, this needs to be ongoing over the first months. This will allow each other to: • Track the results • Set expectations that are very clear What do you do to hire people? Ps. Fair Hiring Practices for Creatives Too often, audio engineers, video editors, and graphic designers are asked for samples or custom work without employers disclosing the budget. Many make it to the final stages only to be rejected because the budget does not align, not because of their skills. Disclosing the budget range in the job post and discussing it based on experience and skill set can save time for everyone. Employers usually know their payment capacity, so why not be upfront? Scaling a Team While Preserving Creativity One of the big challenges I faced while growing this business was scaling the team without losing the creative spark in each project. Initially, it was just me and a couple of interns. We didn’t have the budget for established photographers, so I onboarded people whose creative vision aligned with mine. Fast forward to now, for every position we open, we get a flood of applications. One consistent approach in my hiring is balancing the team’s creativity. Whether it's a wedding or a corporate shoot, I ensure the team has a mix of perspectives. I never rely solely on fresh ideas or experience. It’s about creating a blend. If one person excels at portraits, I pair them with someone skilled in storytelling so the client gets the best of both. How I scale and keep creativity alive 👇🏼 1. Hiring: Candidates with an artistic perception aligned with our core brand vision. 2. Balanced Teams: Mixing experienced and fresh talent to produce technically strong and creatively unique results. 3.
