The future of architecture begins with how land is used today! 💡 Oana Bogdan, founder of &bogdan, an architecture practice in Brussels, challenged the conventional relationship between architecture and land use. From converting canal-side buildings to support future water transport to considering different land sharing options to make spaces more affordable, her ideas provide fresh perspectives on how to approach architecture and urban development. Instead of focusing on fast-paced construction, Oana Bogdan sees future buildings as flexible platforms, whose identity emerges from their adaptation to cultural and political contexts. These platforms support new ownership models and encourage collaboration, creativity, and community engagement. #BAU #baumuenchen #architecture #construction

We’re delighted to share that Morris+Company’s CEO and Head of Architecture, Joe Morris, will be speaking at the SHARE Serbia 2024 International Architecture Forum, 26th November, in Belgrade! Joe’s talk, “Urban Continuity: Crafting a Modern Legacy at 15 Norton Folgate, London,” delves into the rich story of this transformative project—a celebration of historical and sensitive reuse. 15 Norton Folgate embodies the philosophy of building with thought, weaving new life into a historic fabric. By balancing heritage conservation with innovative design, this project illustrates how architecture can respectfully adapt and reimagine spaces for contemporary use, creating places that honour the past while meeting the needs of the present. This conversation resonates deeply with @Morris+Company’s vision and values that architecture should be a dialogue between people, place and planet. If you’re attending the conference, we’d love to hear your thoughts—drop us a message or come say hello after the talk! We would be pleased to connect, exchange ideas, and continue shaping places that inspire and endure. #MorrisandCompany #ShareSerbia #Architecture #15NortonFolgate #UrbanContinuity #ArchitecturalLegacy #Retrofit #AdaptiveReuse

The new urban focus on whole cities and towns brings a fresh approach to the art and craft of architecture. Urbanists design buildings that put placemaking first and often work with the "missing middle" of building types that most contribute to urban vitality. https://lnkd.in/ekE7-JDP

Bridges aren't just about getting from one one place to another; they symbolize connection and understanding, whether they're physical structures or bridges of ideas. With that idea in mind, Architects are using bridges to create buildings that bring people and places together in meaningful ways. These special bridge-buildings aren't just about crossing rivers or valleys; they blend nature with city life, tradition with modernity, and function with beauty. This trend isn't just about architecture; it's about bridging divides and building communities—one bridge at a time. Every now and again you attend an event that reminds you of why you do what you do and what architecture is supposed to be about. For me this is sharing stories and connecting people who want to make change, and spaces that can facilitate a difference. HomeGrown Plus's recent panel event 'SUSTAINABILITY: The impact on the Global South, is this the elephant in the room?' organised by Neil Pinder, was one of these conversations, where the panel challenged one another and the audience pushed for accountability. The discussion centred around what the term 'sustainability' means today; the difference between 'experiencing' and 'understanding'; the exploitation of resources and the drastic implications of these, and the positioning of the Global South and Global North. Speaker panel was made up of: - Neal Shasore, Head of School at The London School of Architecture - Noris Obijiaku, Part I Architectural Assistant and Digital Content Creator - Dr. Harriet Harriss, Educator, Writer and Architect - Chrissa Stamatopoulou, Architect at Grimshaw - Katie Fisher, Architect at CARD Projects - Chris Williamson, RIBA Elect and Founding Partner at Weston Williamson + Partners Host - Jasmin Yeo, Project Assistant at Jan Kattein Architects Summary: Be human before you think about being a 'professional'. And, as one closing question by Architecture Student Stella F. reminded everyone, in a backdrop of negative impact and challenges around the world, ask yourself what is 'the joy' that drives you in your own mission to better the built environment.

What Is The Influence Of Cultural Context In Architecture & Urban Design? Architecture and urban design are never just about buildings and spaces—they're reflections of culture, history, and identity. The way we shape our environments is deeply influenced by the values, traditions, and social norms of the communities we design for. Whether it’s the design of public spaces that foster community interaction, or architectural styles that honor local heritage, understanding cultural context is essential to creating meaningful, sustainable places.
