Celebrating World Fashion Day: Embracing Representation, Sustainability, and the New Wave of African Fashion On August 21st, we celebrate World Fashion Day—a day dedicated to the art and spirit of fashion that transcends borders and cultures. Fashion is more than just clothing; it is an expression of identity, heritage, and the wisdom passed down through generations. This day honors the achievements of the fashion industry on a national, regional, and international level. Viewed through a decolonial lens, World Fashion Day takes on an even deeper significance. It challenges us to recognize and dismantle the power dynamics that have historically shaped the global fashion industry, often at the expense of marginalized voices. It is a call to celebrate and uplift diverse narratives, particularly those that have been silenced or overlooked. The African Fashion movement stands at the forefront of this paradigm shift. It is not just transforming the international fashion scene; it is redefining it. The creativity, talent, and innovation emerging from Africa are unlike anything the industry has seen before. African designers are bringing rich cultural heritage to the global stage, using unique, sustainable textiles and a mindful approach that resonates with the growing demand for mindful fashion. This movement sets a new standard—one that embraces diversity, sustainability, and authenticity. It is a reminder that fashion is not just about aesthetics; it is a powerful tool for cultural exchange, empowerment, and change. As we celebrate World Fashion Day, let’s recognize the invaluable contributions of African fashion to the global narrative and commit to a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future in fashion. Can you guess which country my dress was made in? #WorldFashionDay #Celebratingfashion #MadeInAfrica #Culture #AfricanFashion #DecolonizeFashion #Sustainability #CulturalHeritage #CircularFashion #NonbinaryFashion #Fashionstyles #Outfitoftheday

What to Expect versus What to Remember: Sustainability at Fashion Weeks 2024… This time of year is a particularly busy period for the fashion industry; yesterday marked the end of the New York Fashion Week and today marks the beginning of London Fashion Week. This year is especially celebrated due to it being the 40th anniversary of the British Fashion Council’s Council London Fashion Week. As a central London-based, PR and Marketing bureau specialising in fashion and beauty, we are excited to see what this week brings for one of the world's creative capitals. Over the course of the next 5 days, over 250 designers and an expected 105,000 guests including key media figures and high-profile celebrities will be flocking to London to celebrate it being a cultural and creative capital. Iconic British brands such as Burberry and Wales Bonner have catwalk slots and many of the shows will take place at the British Fashion Council’s space at 180 The Strand. Keep an eye out over the coming days to see some of the most well-known fashion houses. However, this industry and the events surrounding it are being pressured to answer sustainability claims and at Bebold we prioritise businesses that prioritise sustainable and ethical values. New York Fashion Week has spearheaded this with designers demonstrating their commitment to sustainability through their use of deadstock materials, reducing waste and implementing planet-protective production practices. A brand leading the way at NYFW is the bold Gabriela Hearst whose shows are carbon-neutral and materials are eco-conscious. London Fashion Week is also set to 'go green' and the event has announced "a renewed focus on sustainability, integrating eco-conscious practices and highlighting designers who prioritize ethical production and environmental responsibility". Several designers appearing at LFW are fully committed to sustainability, for example, luxury jewellery designer, Samantha Siu donates a cut of her profits to animal conservation charities and sources sustainable and ethical stones. #LFW40 #BritishFashionCouncil #London #LondonFashionWeek #BritishBrands

A Bold Step Forward for Kenyan Fashion Reflecting on the Kenya Fashion Week (KFW) pre-launch event on October 26, 2024, we see the strength that lies in owning and sharing our stories. Held at the lush Shamba Events venue in Nairobi, the theme, "Fashion that Tells Your Story," resonated deeply with every attendee. It wasn't just a call for designers to share their creations but an invitation to every individual in the room to honor their own roots, stories, and creativity. This pre-launch event was not merely a show but a vision come alive—a vision of creating a globally recognized space for African fashion, centered on Kenyan culture, innovation, and, most importantly, community. We saw panel discussions that went beyond surface-level industry talk. Conversations around creativity, design innovation, industry leadership, and the practical steps needed for Kenyan fashion to scale globally filled the air. It was a reminder that behind every label is a person, and behind every person is a story woven with courage, community, and tradition. What makes this step forward so significant is the challenges Kenyan designers face today: limited access to funding, inadequate industry infrastructure, and the high costs of sustainable practices. Yet, seeing designers come together to challenge these obstacles was inspiring. Kenya Fashion Week has set the stage for a future where Kenyan designers are not only visible but respected voices in the global fashion conversation. With the main KFW event set for March 2025, we now have an opportunity to continue what was started in October—a celebration of Kenyan identity, a commitment to sustainable practices, and a belief in the power of storytelling. Because when we show up authentically, owning our narratives, the world can't help but pay attention. #KenyaFashionWeek #KenyaFashionWeek #AfricanFashion #KenyanDesigners #FashionInnovation #SustainableFashion #FashionForGood #GlobalFashion #KenyaFashion2025 #KFWPreLaunch #FashionInNairobi #FashionForwardKenya

📢 Copenhagen Fashion Week is leading the charge for sustainability in the fashion industry! As Copenhagen Fashion Week begins today (running until Jan 31), we want to share some positive news with you. ✨ Copenhagen Fashion Week - Sustainability Requirements - Since 2023, only brands meeting Minimum Standards (covering environmental and social practices) can showcase their collections. These standards require brands to demonstrate "circular design principles, considering the repairability, recyclability, upgradability and reusability" of products "as well as the inclusion of recycled content." - In 2024, Copenhagen Fashion Week updated its Sustainability Requirements to align with industry advancements and EU policies. These will become mandatory for all applicants in 2025. - Brands are screened by an external committee to verify compliance with the Minimum Standards. 💡 Important Notes - The framework is not a certification or audit but part of the application process. - It aims to create a shared language and raise expectations for sustainability within the fashion industry. By setting these standards, Copenhagen Fashion Week is driving meaningful change in business practices—with success. Since June 2024, Berlin Fashion Week has adopted these sustainability requirements, and London Fashion Week has just announced they will follow suit. We're glad to see this trend and will soon share more about these first implementations. 🌍 💭 We see Copenhagen as a frontrunner in setting new standards for fashion weeks—both regionally and globally. What do you think? #Sustainability #FashionWeek #CPHFW #CopenhagenFashionWeek #BFW #BerlinFashionWeek #SustainabilityRequirements

With over 35 years in the fashion industry, I've seen that real sustainability requires more than changes in consumer behavior or occasional green initiatives by brands. It demands systemic efforts from every sector, including governments, institutions, brands, and fashion weeks. I admire Copenhagen Fashion Week for setting a high bar in sustainability, and I'm excited to see Berlin Fashion Week's upcoming announcement of their 20 minimum sustainability standards. These will not only push for greater diversity and inclusion but will also enhance transparency and traceability, encouraging brands to reveal more about their supply chains. At WORLD COLLECTIVE HUB, we support brands in meeting these new standards by providing tools for full transparency and traceability. Our expanding features like digital passports and impact assessments are essential for driving sustainable change. Step by step, sustainability is becoming not just a matter of pride but a fundamental obligation. It is transitioning from the exceptional to the ordinary, ensuring that the entire fashion industry evolves responsibly. #SustainableFashion #BerlinFashionWeek #CPHFW #Transparency #Traceability #WorldCollectiveHub #Sustainability https://lnkd.in/e9dkCNzD
