Since 1987, IYG has been a lifeline for LGBTQ+ young people, standing as the oldest, continually operating LGBTQ+ youth-serving organization in North America. Today, we serve more individuals, in more places, and in more ways than ever before—but we need you to continue this mission. For many LGBTQ+ young people, coming out is a courageous step toward authenticity, often met with heartbreaking rejection. Left to navigate homelessness, food insecurity, and a lack of basic resources, these young people face challenges no one should endure alone. At IYG, we provide more than essentials—we deliver hope, dignity, and a future. 💜 How We Change Lives 💜 Through our Basic Needs Program, we ensure #LGBTQ+ young people have access to: 🌟 Culturally relevant food from a fully stocked pantry and fresh, hot meals five days a week. 🌟 Clothing and transition closets with everyday and gender-affirming apparel to celebrate identity. 🌟 Hygiene support, laundry, and shower facilities, restoring dignity and self-respect. 🌟 Housing assistance through HOPWA and Direct Cash Transfers, ensuring stability and safety. ✨ Mental health counseling and HIV/AIDS testing for holistic care. But we don’t stop at basic needs. We’re committed to empowering LGBTQ+ youth for a brighter future: ✨ Job training, financial literacy, and leadership programs to prepare for independence. ✨ Cooking and food preservation classes to build life skills and self-reliance. ✨ Transportation assistance to access resources and opportunities. ✨ Comprehensive advocacy to secure vital legal documents for a stable life. 💰 Why Your Support Matters: Every dollar you give powers life-changing services that help LGBTQ+ youth thrive. Your donation directly combats #homelessness, ensures access to #food and #healthcare, and empowers young people to break free from cycles of #poverty and rejection. 🌈 This Giving Tuesday, take action. Be the reason a young person finds hope, safety, and opportunity. 🌈 Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gNUbbSep If you have any questions, feel free to contact me / Shelly Fitzgerald, CFRM / Whitney Morris-Lange, CFRM. #givingtuesday #nonprofit #indiana #indianapolis #usa #marioncounty

🌈 We are extremely proud to have been partnered with Pret A Manger for nearly a decade! ☕ As the UK’s only LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity, we understand the importance of Pride for businesses. More than half of our corporate donations are made during Pride season. At akt, we are extremely grateful to receive donations during Pride. For us, it is a natural time to partner with corporations and launch activations at a time when they are more likely to grab customer and staff attention alike. However, as proud members of the LGBTQ+ community we are also rightfully wary of disingenuous connection, which can ultimately do more harm for our community than good. That is why we are passionate about collaborating with corporate partners who are committed to LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality internally, and who are seeking to build Pride campaigns that go beyond a social media post. One of our fantastic partners is The Pret Foundation. The Pret Foundation have remained consistent in their engagement and authentic support of akt, having partnered with our charity since 2015. As part of our partnership this year, Pret has offered its donation terminals to akt so its customers can ‘tap to donate’ directly to us in their shops during June and July. Additionally, a percentage of Pret’s Love Bar sales will be donated to akt in July. Donations help to provide emergency support and ‘Rainbow Starter Packs’ for young people who are starting out on their own. These packs ensure young people thrive in their new homes – providing funds for furniture, a deposit and other key essentials. Pret also holds a strong internal commitment to diversity and inclusion, recently launching its Diversity, Equity and Belonging groups. Clare Clough, UK Managing Director at Pret A Manger, says: “Together with The Pret Foundation, we are proudly partnered with akt to support LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness. Over the past eight years, we’ve awarded grants to support young people. This partnership aligns with our commitment to creating an inclusive environment for our customers and employees. At Pret, we believe everyone deserves a safe space to belong, whether in our shops or support centre. Join us this Pride in supporting akt and the important work they do.” 🔗This pride, you could help us save a LGBTQ+ young person’s life. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eMzqYMCF

As we approach Thanksgiving, I’m reflecting on how fortunate I’ve been and how that motivates me to give back to others facing significant challenges. A good friend who works at City Harvest reminded me of the needs of nearly 50% of working-aged households in NY. Check them out here: https://lnkd.in/eCHKWhzE For those working at companies with matching gift programs, now is the perfect time to maximize your impact. By contributing before year-end, you can double your support for important causes. Here are five organizations I’ve supported that address critical needs across diverse communities: 1. Covenant House New Jersey House– Provides shelter and support for homeless youth, combats youth trafficking, and helps young people with education, housing, job prep, and life skills. Adopt A Senior Organization Connects individuals with aging adults to combat loneliness and ensure they feel valued and supported. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/epFW-EW9 5. SAGE: Advocates for aging LGBTQ+ individuals, many of whom face discrimination and isolation, ensuring dignity and community in their later years. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness, we can all make a difference. Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and a season of giving back. #GivingBack, #HolidayGiving, #NonprofitSupport, #WorkplaceGiving

Being an Active Listener and Supporting LGBTQIA+ Colleagues 🌈 Here are some practical tips to be better allies and create inclusive spaces: 👂 Listen Actively-When an LGBTQIA+ friend or colleague shares their experiences, lend an empathetic ear. Create a safe space for them to express themselves without judgment. Sometimes, all someone needs is someone who truly hears them out. 📕 Educate Yourself-Take the initiative to learn about LGBTQIA+ history, terminology, and issues. Understand that everyone’s experiences are unique. Avoid making assumptions or invalidating their feelings. 📣 Amplify Voices-Share their stories, art, or advocacy work on social media or within your network. Use your platform to elevate their voices. Encourage others to do the same. Visibility matters, and your support can make a difference. ✊ Be an Upstander-If you witness anti-LGBTQIA+ comments or jokes, speak up. Be an effective bystander and challenge harmful behavior. Your intervention matters in creating a more respectful environment. 🌈 Support LGBTQIA+ Organizations-Attend local community events, donate to LGBTQIA+ charities, and uplift LGBTQIA+ artists and businesses. Your support contributes to a more vibrant and inclusive community. Remember, allyship is an ongoing commitment. Let’s actively listen, learn, and stand up for equality. Together, we create a more supportive world! 🏳️🌈 #ListenWithEmpathy #LearnAndListen #AllyshipMatters #QueerVoices #EqualityCareers #30daysofallyship

Charities need as much support as possible in order to help as many individuals as they can. We are extremely grateful to be able to be a part of the Lottery Fund, aimed at supporting various non-profits like ours. This funding plays a crucial role in bolstering initiatives that promote inclusivity, equality, and visibility across different regions. The lottery grants are often used to support a range of activities, such as educational programs and community outreach to events that celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and history. These funds can help organisations likes ours to offer vital resources like counselling services, support groups, and safe spaces for individuals exploring their identities or facing challenges related to their sexuality or gender. This financial support helps ensure that important work continues, and it demonstrates a broader commitment to fostering a more inclusive society. The impact of this funding is far-reaching, and today and always, we are so grateful for this support. #CharitySupport #LotteryFund #NonProfitImpact #InclusiveCommunity #EqualityForAll #LGBTQVisibility #SupportLocalCharities #FundTheChange

Don't live in a swing state, but want to make a difference this election cycle? I've been volunteering my time and technical expertise to the Movement Voter Project (MVP). MVP raises money for local, progressive grassroots groups in swing states. They "invest in the best local voter organizing groups, with a focus on youth, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and immigrant voters." I wanted to have an impact, but I didn't want to call or text people. I used to live in a swing state, and being on the receiving end of those calls is overwhelming. MVP needs volunteers to help run Zoom fundraising calls. I serve as a "Zoom Manager" and work behind the scenes to help the calls run smoothly. It's a simple way to offer my time and expertise, just a few hours a month, and the calls that I've been on have raised nearly $100k! That money will be sent to local groups in swing states who know how to reach key voters. It's also been a rewarding way to do this work in community. I've gotten to know my local MVP organizers and each call is a gratifying, exhilarating team effort. Check out MVP if you're looking for a way to make an impact. 💖

Want to see a donation of $1500 get made to The Trevor Project from the #samsales crew today? Here's how you can help simply by liking or reposting this post. As we considered spending some marketing budget to a sponsored newsletter or ad, we instead thought... ...why don't we ask for this community's help in marketing one of our top offerings, and give the money to an amazing cause that can do good in the world rather than spending that money with a corporation. ******************************************************************************* The marketing message we wanted to get out: If your teams are struggling with: 📧 Open, reply, meeting booking rates ✂ Understanding how to cut through the noise of an executive's inbox to earn a meeting 💡 Figuring out the "so what" value prop of what your solutions do for each buyer persona 🖋 Understanding how to write great sequences 🤓 Learning how to handle objections, ask for referrals, multithread, or use simple 101 email hacks ...then our Show Me You Know Me Masterclass series can help you address any or all of the above. ******************************************************************************* We'll add $1 per like + $5 for each repost (without your thoughts), up to $1500, that we get by 5pmET today, and donate to The Trevor Project before COB. If you get our newsletter or have seen our charity work these past few years, you'll know that this organization, which provides suicide prevention support for LGBTQ+ youths, is one we've long supported and cheer for loudly. And if this post gets us to our donation goal, we'll do it again this week with another charity. #samsales #SMYKM

Every June, for #PrideMonth, it always seems to be a competition for which companies change their logos to the #prideflag fastest, even when their political donations sometimes directly support anti-LGBTQIA+ politicians because their policies are more “business-friendly.” It should go without saying that these same businesses should champion #equality year round by supporting local community organizations to actually uplift and platform #LGBTQIA+ people, and update their HR policies to include better coverage for trans and non-binary people, including same-sex partners as recipients of shared healthcare coverage, and making parental leave for new parents more accessible for adoptive or non-birthing parents. These are changes that not only benefit a company’s LGBTQIA+ employees, but the health of their workforce as a whole. For Pride Month this June, I would like to share some local #Toronto resources and charities I personally would like to highlight, as well as some statistics that more corporations should be making an effort to address. 🏳️🌈 LGBTQIA+ Charities in Toronto 🏳️🌈 - The 519: https://lnkd.in/ehd8yEJd This community centre provides a safe and accepting space for our LGBT community. They also have workshops for new LGBT parents, training courses, and consulting services to help make things easier in this big city for LGBT folks of all ages, genders and backgrounds. - Foodshare: https://lnkd.in/eBb5BnPM This program helps specifically LBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, People with Disabilities and have “distributed more than 300,000 pounds of fresh produce to low-income families since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic,” according to an article in Toronto Life. Your donations help create Good Food boxes for delivery. - Pieces to Pathways: https://lnkd.in/eaKCyBtB P2P is a “peer-led initiative offering Canada’s only substance use support program for LGBTTQQ2SIA youth (ages 16-29).” Their staff are all queer and/or trans-identified and have their own experiences of substance use and recovery. The program is open to “all LGBTTQQ2SIA youth ages 16-29 who are concerned about their substance use, or are interested in exploring their relationship to substances.” Statistics (included in the comments, I ran out of room in the original post) Remedying these statistics is not just in the interest of making your company workforce a more equitable place, but is in the interest of your company’s bottom line as the “S” of your company’s #ESG reports continues to be incorporated into global legislation supporting more social equality in companies around the world. While I would hope that making your company an equitable and inclusive place to work is a reward in and of itself, I am more enthused and emboldened by the fact that #inclusivity will soon be #mandatory for more companies around the world. Please share this and add charities in the comments to spread awareness!
