As an event marketer, in terms of achieving your goals, is the journey more important than the destination? Many people like the journey more than the destination itself. When planning an event or marketing campaign, it's easy to get caught up in the end result. We want our events to be successful and our campaigns to drive results. But sometimes we forget that it's not just about the numbers. It's also about how we got there. It's not just about selling products or tickets, but also about building relationships with your target audience and giving them value. During your events and event marketing, take your audience on a fun and valuable journey through story telling. A good story can help you connect with your audience. The journey is an essential part of the storytelling process. It is what we feel, see, hear and experience when we are on our way to somewhere else. When you’re planning your event marketing campaign, think about how you can make the journey more memorable for your guests by adding in some personal touches that will enhance their experience. It’s powerful because it can help you get more engagement from your attendees, create connections with them, and boost their perceptions of the value of your organization. Be the guide to your audience on their journey to achieving their goals. And, along the way you'll hopefully achieve yours. Let’s do our own event instead! Said every other marketing and sales leader out there after experiencing a really good event. And it’s understandable - you see all the conversations it sparked, all the awareness it created and you obviously want to have it too. And all only for yourself! Good. But before you dive head-first into the planning mode, make sure to answer in all honestly and transparency to the following questions: - Why are you doing the event? The answer has to be directly tied to business objectives. - Why now? So many events are hosted at the wrong time - right before holidays or end of the quarter or overlapping with another major campaign. You need to seriously think about the timing! - Why is own event better than a 3rd party event? Truth be told, for some businesses participating in 3rd party events might be a much better strategy! - Why does it have to be an event and not some other campaign? Events are hard to execute, require a lot of effort and resource. You should do it only in case it’s the one solution. - Why would people come to your event? “Cause we are awesome” can’t be the answer. In the current ovrsaturated and economically challenging market, there needs to be a solid reason. Write down your answers. Read them out loud. If it makes a compelling argument tied to business objectives, sales goals and clear unique value for your target audience - you might be on the right track! #events #eventmarketing
