Applying for employee relations focussed roles?
Over the last few months, I've partnered with a leading organisation to recruit three key HR hires, focusing on employee relations.
A number of candidates I've met and spoken with during this time actually had more extensive and advanced employee relations experience than stated on their CV.
After delving deeper into their experience, it becomes apparent that they are more of a fit for the role than at first glance.
📢 If you are a HR professional applying for an employee relations-focused role, here is a basic yet often overlooked tip to help you stand out!
✨ Tailor your CV to the position you apply for. Highlight how your skills and experiences align with the specific requirements of the role. ✨
I appreciate this can be time-consuming; however, if, as in this example, you are applying for an ER-focused role, your CV should ideally shine with examples of your ER experience.
❇ Emphasise any experience you have in handling employee relations issues, such as conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, or performance management.
❇ Use specific examples to demonstrate your skills in managing employee relations effectively.
❇ Often, ER roles require experience managing high-volume caseloads. Have you managed high volume? A great stat to mention on your CV
❇ Have you operated in a regional capacity? Often, ER-focused roles will be multi-site or cover a specific region. Again, a great point to mention on your CV.
❇ Employers often value HR professionals who can develop and deliver training on employee relations topics such as communication skills, conflict resolution, and diversity and inclusion. If you have experience in training and development, be sure to highlight it.
By highlighting your relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, as well as staying current with industry trends and best practices, you can position yourself as a strong candidate for employee relations-focused roles within HR.
