I'm inspired by the success, passion, and savvy of advocates in our movement. I recommend this Anima blog on lessons learned by 10 top advocates. My main takeaways: 1. Adapt campaign tactics constantly. Create feedback loops to know when to adapt. 2. Celebrate all progress, no matter how small. All change is incremental. 3. Professionalize, but be sure to not lose grassroots activist passion. 4. Lead with a clear vision and communication. Specific org structures / rules are less important. 5. Be humble and nourish a "beginner's mind." We've all been wrong before and will be again. I'm grateful to Aaron Ross, Ignacia Uribe R., Andrea Gunn, Wayne Hsiung, Ilona Rabizo, Eva Hamer, Jayasimha Nuggehalli 刘胜利, Mahi Klosterhalfen, Josh Balk, and Lucas Alvarenga for these insights -- and for the work they do every day to spare countless millions of forgotten animals from suffering. https://lnkd.in/g4pMYpxT

We’ve all been there: a friend shares a cute photo of their dog and child, and you—the one who knows dog body language—immediately notice something others might miss. 🚨 For handlers working with therapy and facility animals, understanding subtle cues like a perked ear or a still tail is critical. It’s not just about safety; it’s about creating a stronger bond and advocating for your dog’s well-being. That’s why we created the Canine Body Language course—to give you the tools to understand your dog’s cues and ensure a positive partnership. 👏 Understanding canine body language isn’t just a skill—it’s the foundation of advocacy, safety, and effective animal-assisted interventions. 🐾

It is White Cane Awareness Day! A simple, yet powerful tool to achieve independence. What persons using a white cane want you to know: "If you are driving or cycling and see someone using a white cane, you must follow the law and stop to give that person the right of way. Remember that the cane is our tool to safely and independently navigate the environment. There's no need to shout warnings or try to physically steer us so that our canes won't bump into things. Remember that we are using our canes to explore what is around us. If we need any help or direction, we will ask."

International White Cane Safety Day 15 October 2024 🌍 Today, we celebrate International White Cane Safety Day under the theme “Promoting Inclusion: Celebrating Abilities and Advocating Access for People with Blindness.” This day reminds us of the importance of creating an inclusive world for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The white cane symbolizes independence, mobility, and safety, but more importantly, it represents empowerment. By ensuring equal access to opportunities, transportation, and information, we can help remove barriers and open doors for all. Let’s continue to break down misconceptions, celebrate the remarkable abilities of individuals who are blind, and advocate for accessible environments that allow everyone to thrive. Together, we can promote a future where inclusion and access are a given, not an exception. #InternationalWhiteCaneDay #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityForAll #BlindnessAwareness #EqualAccess #CelebrateAbilities #visualdisbility #blind #lowvision #whitecane #safety #Orientationandmobility
