AI Quality & Testing Hub’s Post

✅ What does it take to bring AI-powered clinical decision support to the next level? Ensuring that large language model-based applications meet the strict regulatory requirements of medical devices is no easy feat. But it’s a necessary step to make AI a trusted co-pilot for healthcare professionals. Together with our customer Prof. Valmed® - validated medical information GmbH we tackled this challenge head-on. That so soon after the first 510(k) clearances of MedLLMs a Notified Body was willing to certify a GAI-based MDSW based on the applicable law was not necessarily to be expected. So congratulations to all involved, especially #VeraRoedel and #HeinzWiendl. The elephant in the room is, of course, the AIA. As we know, the relevant provisions are only applicable from 2 August 2027, but exceptionally, according to Art. 111(2)(1) AIA, also for legacy MedLLMs placed on the market before 2 August 2026, if these systems are subject to significant changes in their design or intended purpose from this date onwards.
