Nine years ago today, a so called 'landmark climate agreement' was adopted at the UN Climate Change summit in Paris (#COP21) as 195 countries agreed to limit greenhouse gas emissions. Nearly a decade later, we are experiencing the hottest year on record, surpassing pre-industrial temperatures by over 1.5°C. The red line set by the #ParisAgreement has now officially been crossed for the first time, with irreversible impacts already unfolding for humans and #Biodiversity. 🚨 When will our governments finally wake up? UPDATE below: Even if #climatechange is denied by some (unfortunately influential) people due to their own economic interests, the extreme weather events in Spain, among others, show us that increased efforts in climate protection are necessary. We participate in #COP29 to act for impact! Update with a PERSONAL NOTE: Without massive efforts, temperature could increase by 5 degrees until end of the century- with catastrophic impact that might not be manageable anymore. At least those with little (grand-)children, that hopefully live until then, should act and oppose the efforts of those who are only concerned with their personal interests and obviously have no moral values at all.. ‼️ #COP29 Newsflash ‼️ At the close of a discussion on the adverse Impacts of Climate Change on the Decline of Water Basins, it was emphasised that we're midway through a critical decade to keep temperatures below 1.5 degrees with unprecedented climate impacts disrupting the global water cycle. It was underscored that adaptation is as essential as mitigation. It called for a new strategic vision, innovative approaches, and formal arrangements to elevate adaptation efforts, including integrating water into NAPs and #NDCs to enhance policy impact and attract finance.
