Did you know? Rwanda’s healthcare system is one of the fastest-growing in Africa, with life expectancy more than doubling since the 1990s. This incredible progress is thanks to innovative public health policies and the dedication of medical professionals like Emmanuel Sindikubwabo, pictured here. 🌍👩⚕️ Emmanuel is an Africa New Life alumni and former sponsored student, now a doctor making a difference in his community. He shared: "Even though there are so many diseases, I am hopeful in a few years we will have many doctors to help with this. We can all work together with the help of the government and science. I have so much hope because this is a country that is growing with advanced technology and facilities to help us." At Africa New Life, we are proud to support the education and opportunities that make stories like Emmanuel’s possible. Through programs like the Dream Medical Center, we are helping transform lives and empower communities. 💛 📖 Source: World Health Organization (WHO) #Rwanda #Healthcare #AfricaNewLife #TransformingLives #GlobalHealth

🌍 Exciting News for Public Health Professionals in Nigeria! 🚀 I recently came across an announcement on Dr. Ejemai Eboreime MD,PhD, PMP, FAPH wall that the Global Implementation Conference (GIC) 2024 will be hosted in Abuja, Nigeria from November 13-15! 🎉 This event marks a milestone as it's being produced in partnership with the Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA). This collaboration will bring implementation science into the spotlight, especially in a region with pressing public health challenges. But wait—what exactly is implementation science, and how does it tie into public health? 🤔 Implementation Science is a growing field within public health that focuses on understanding and improving how healthcare interventions, programs, and policies are adopted, adapted, and scaled up in real-world settings. In essence, it’s about bridging the gap between research and practice. While traditional research might develop effective interventions for public health issues (like reducing maternal mortality or preventing infectious diseases), these solutions often don’t reach those who need them most or fail to work effectively when scaled. This is where implementation science steps in. 🔑 It seeks to address these key questions: How can we ensure that evidence-based interventions are actually implemented in diverse, real-world contexts? What are the barriers and facilitators to implementing public health programs successfully? How can we adapt interventions to fit local cultural, social, and political environments? In public health, implementing science becomes especially important because many interventions are designed in controlled environments (like clinical trials or academic settings). However, once rolled out into communities—particularly in low-resource settings—challenges such as limited infrastructure, policy restrictions, or cultural differences can hinder their success. Implementation science helps identify and tackle these challenges, ensuring that programs are not just effective but sustainable and equitable in the long term. 🌱 With the GIC 2024 conference, implementation science is finally gaining the attention it deserves, especially in Africa. This is an incredible opportunity for public health professionals, researchers, and policymakers to come together to share innovative solutions and learn from each other. 📍 If you're passionate about turning evidence into action, implementation science is the field for you. Let's bridge the gap between research and real-world impact! #PublicHealth #ImplementationScience #GIC2024 #GlobalHealth #Nigeria #SustainableHealth #EvidenceToAction #NISA #HealthSystems Stephen Olaide Aremu, PhP

Today, I had the honor of representing our Registrar/CEO at a consultative forum for CEOs of professional regulatory boards and councils, hosted by the Kenya Healthcare Professionals Oversight Authority (KHPOA). Discussions revolved around joint inspections, indexing issues with the Commission for University Education (CUE) and professional bodies, and challenges with training institutions. The agreement includes continuing indexing, addressing non-compliant institutions, and potential actions like disengagement. During the forum, I addressed issues facing my Council on training regulation, which led to collaborative solutions. A matrix for engagement with the Principal Secretary (PS) was shared, focusing on key points. A significant topic was the proposed model for a modernized health professional regulatory framework, aiming to consolidate related healthcare cadres to be regulated under one body. Dr. Jackson Kioko estimated a two-year timeline for implementation, emphasizing public participation of the affected professionals. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare regulation by promoting group practice, inspired by models in British Columbia and Zimbabwe. Anticipating progress, the roadmap for implementation will begin post-presentation to the PS for Public Health and Professional Standards #Ministry of Health Kenya. #HealthcareRegulation #ProfessionalStandards #Kenya Health Professionals Oversight Authority.

Tackling a Major Challenge to Improve Healthcare in Niger 🇳🇪💪 For several months now, I have been working on an ambitious project aimed at strengthening the Nigerien healthcare system. My goal is to develop concrete solutions to improve access to and quality of care in the country. 🏥 However, I am currently facing a major challenge: finding motivated healthcare professionals to help me achieve this goal. It was with immense pride and pleasure that I opened Association of Nigerian Physicians in the America’s (ANPA)’s Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly. As doctors with Nigerian heritage, we all carry a unique responsibility, to not only serve the country where we live, but also to uplift and support the transformation of the healthcare landscape in our home country. Globally and nationally, we are facing a myriad of challenges, opportunities and are witnessing rapid advancements in medical technology, changing patient demographics, evolving disease patterns, and global health crises. The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR led administration has shown a keen interest in the prioritization of healthcare including the involvement of Nigerian healthcare professionals both at home and abroad in a more robust and sustainable fashion. Thus presenting an opportune time for ANPA and its members to collectively and individually join hands with the Nigerian government, and provide access to the wealth of knowledge, experience, and skills gained through their endeavours in the United States and beyond. The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare recognizes the major role Nigerian healthcare professionals in the Diaspora can play towards strengthening the healthcare system in Nigeria and are therefor placing increased attention to Diaspora engagement. A key programme aimed at crystallizing this initiative is the Healthcare professional in the Diaspora (HPD) engagement programme, which is being expanded for sustainability. As previously mentioned, we are in the process of setting up an active and interactive Dashboard, which will include a database of Nigerian Health Professionals in the Diaspora for ease of engagement and interaction. We want to reinvigorate previous efforts and processes, fully engage the health professionals in diaspora and transfer skills and knowledge to home-based healthcare professionals in a more robust and sustainable manner. I extend my gratitude to the ANPA leadership team and its members for the interest being shown in giving back to Nigeria in the areas of medical services, capacity building and remittances to improve the economic situation of our dear country. #health #nigeria #diaspora #anpa #workforce #physcians

"Nevertheless, South Africa has the potential to draw on its experiences of health inequalities and of the detrimental consequences of historical segregation to build high-quality service delivery for the benefit of all its citizens." In this new political atmosphere in South Africa, where many are grappling with the significance of this pivotal moment in our country's politics, one area that captures my attention, as is often the case in such spaces, is healthcare. Over the years, significant efforts have been made to enhance the quality of healthcare treatment. However, the challenges surrounding healthcare quality and the leadership and governance issues within South Africa's health system are well-documented. As of the time of writing this post, South Africa is navigating complex political grounds defined by a coalition government with diverse healthcare ideologies. This political uncertainty carries profound implications for the health system. Regardless of where one stands on the spectrum of opinions, it is evident that significant improvements in healthcare await our new government. Reflecting on this, I felt compelled to share this critical review of the challenges regarding the quality of health in South Africa that are deeply rooted in the country's history of segregation. Feel free to share your thoughts below!
