What inspiring personal story from one of our talented social workers, Jonaī McCoy! 🖊 Please take a minute to hear of her accomplishments as a social worker... 👇 ___________________________________________________ I was born in Oakland, CA and moved to Birmingham, AL at the age of seven. Although Huntsville, AL was my home for the last four years and most of my adult life, I relocated back to Metro Atlanta early this year. For as long as I can remember, I have always had a heart for helping others. Because I knew I wanted to serve others in some capacity, I earned my bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science with a concentration in Human Development and Family Studies from Alabama A&M University. After completing an internship in juvenile probation while earning my bachelor's degree, I was confident that I wanted to be a juvenile probation officer and decided to obtain my Master of Social Work degree at Georgia State University. After working in child welfare for a little over 10 years, I decided to pivot to medical social work and was hired at an inpatient hospice facility. I love social work because of the strength-based approach we utilize to advocate, serve, and empower others. I fell in love with hospice social work as I feel that the work is bigger than myself. It is truly an honor to be able to be of service to other as they navigate some of the most challenging times in their lives. I began with Affinity Hospice in September 2022 as a Social Worker in our Madison branch.
