Georgia Main Food Group Limited is leading the charge in reducing food waste—and they’re doing it through action, not just donations. In partnership with the Immigrant Link (ILCS), Georgia Main staff recently spent a day volunteering to pack and distribute nutritious food hampers for families in need. This experience brought them face-to-face with the people and communities they’ve been supporting through their food recovery program. Since partnering with FoodMesh in 2020, Georgia Main has diverted 2.4 million kg of unsold food—equivalent to more than 4 million meals—to charitable organizations. The Big Food Project If you haven't heard of this incredible charity, they collect food from supermarkets, wholesalers, and manufacturers that would otherwise go to waste. This food is then distributed to more than 100 food banks across The Fylde, helping those in need and crisis. Their vision is to create communities where everyone has access to nutritious food and no food goes to waste. Through The Big Food Project and The Big Food Truck, in partnership with Blackpool Food Bank, they rescue surplus, nutritious food and redistribute it to over 14,000 people each month via their network of 80+ partner organisations on the Fylde Coast. Buy A Box, and Starbucks will give back. Starbucks has a long record of action on hunger relief efforts, and this holiday season, we’re building on our year-round commitment by inviting customers to take action in giving back with us through the purchase of a protein box. At participating Starbucks stores, for every protein box sold now through January 2, 2025, we’ll be donating the monetary equivalent of one meal to @feedingamerica. $1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America™ on behalf of local partner food banks. We’re also contributing an additional $4 million in grants to nearly 300 local hunger relief organizations nationwide to support those nonprofits critical to redistributing food donations through Starbucks FoodShare program. As part of our promises to give more than we take from the planet and contribute positively to the communities we serve, to date, we’ve invested more than $81.5 million into food waste reduction and hunger relief efforts. We’ve also diverted over 75 million pounds of edible food from waste streams – which is equivalent to nearly 63 million meals.* #FoodAccess #HungerRelief *According to the USDA, 1.2 pounds of food is equivalent to one meal.
