🚀 🚀 🚀 Excited to announce that “TIPS, a Trick for Transcaval TEVAR Access” is now published in the journal of endovascular therapy 🚀 🚀 🚀 The paper describes a challenging case where all regular peripheral endovascular access failed and was solved with a transcaval access by using a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) needle. The article includes valuable insights and pitfalls to make this technique reproducible for other surgeons who encounter challenging peripheral endovascular access. None of this would be possible without a great team from UZ Leuven. Special thanks to prof. Maleux and dr. Sabrina Houthoofd for their expertise, execution of the case and guidance in writing this paper🙏 The article is now available online with the link below. Enjoy reading it 😉

Remarkable work and a superb example of where patience and perseverance pays off.
Breakthrough at Tyndall revolutionises surgical navigation for Cancer - https://lnkd.in/e2MEjNQ8. The first sensor-on-a-chip for image-guided navigation in surgery will allow clinicians to navigate inside the human body, reducing the use of harmful x-rays during operations. Padraig Cantillon-Murphy, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Tyndall and UCC, who led the research team, said: “This represents the culmination of 10 years development of magnetic tracking technology at Tyndall and UCC. I'm immensely proud of the team's achievements over that time and we look forward to translating this technology to clinical applications where it can make a significant difference in patient outcomes.” University College Cork | MCCI European Research Council (ERC) | Science Foundation Ireland | Enterprise Ireland

On November 8, 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen made a groundbreaking discovery that would change the world of medicine—he detected X-rays, an invisible form of radiation. While experimenting with cathode rays in his lab, he noticed that a fluorescent screen began to glow, despite being separated by a thick cardboard. This led him to explore what he called "X-rays," since their nature was unknown. Röntgen’s discovery allowed for the first-ever imaging of the internal human body without surgery. Shortly after, he produced the first X-ray image of his wife's hand, clearly showing her bones and wedding ring. This was an unprecedented advancement in medical diagnostics. The invention of X-rays revolutionized healthcare, enabling doctors to diagnose fractures, tumors, and various internal conditions with accuracy and speed. Röntgen’s work earned him the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901, solidifying his place in scientific history. #WilhelmRoentgen #XRayDiscovery #MedicalInnovation #Radiology #NobelPrize #ScienceHistory #MedicalBreakthrough #XRay #HealthcareRevolution #Physics #Onthisday #UKCBC #ukcbcdubai #ukcolleges
