Now, picture that dream being shattered by a new racing facility in our own backyard. This isn't just a hypothetical scenario—it's a real threat we're facing right now in Kilmany, Victoria. The Wellington Shire Council is currently accepting submissions in response to a Planning Permit Application that could change the fate of countless greyhounds. The Sale Greyhound Racing Club has submitted plans that include building works involving the construction of a straight track, a round track, a kennel building, a machinery shed and a small management/viewing tower. This proposed racing and broadcasting facility goes far beyond building new death tracks and kennels. This proposal aims to beam and broadcast greyhound races online to expand online wagering and gambling. But here's the heart-wrenching truth: behind every race, every bet, there's a greyhound running for their life. Industry data reveals that on average, one greyhound is killed every three days on Australian death tracks. Each day, 31 injuries are reported, with many more injured dogs silently disappearing once they're off the track. Despite claiming to prioritise safety, the industry's track record speaks for itself. Whether straight or oval, every track represents a death track for these gentle animals.
