❗️❗️❗️The Los Angeles Wildfires - A Stark Reminder of the Growing Climate Risks ❗️❗️❗️ There are so many horrible things affecting us and our families daily which we can or cannot prevent, but this one has left me speechless. ⚠️The Los Angeles has faced devastating wildfires! Fully fueled by powerful winds, prolonged drought, and dry vegetation—it’s clear that the risks posed by a changing climate are no longer abstract concepts. ⚠️ We are about to find out what is the impact. I am following the stats for now and seems like 120 sqkm has been affected, mandatory evacuations of 130,000 residents (going to double soon), financial impact estimated to almost $60 billion, and sadly few lives lost. ⁉️ The reason for fires is due to climate conditions: strong winds 160 kmph + dry conditions (low humidity) + dry soils due to hot weather + inadequate rainfall + lighting strikes + LA typography The events in Los Angeles serve as a powerful reminder: climate risks are here, and they demand our attention. https://lnkd.in/dVcnjZjW
