⭕ VinUniversity’s HACKATHON
Last weekend, I was invited to be a jury member for the final round of the Hackathon organized for the freshmen at VinUniversity.
To my surprise, the level of the pitches was extraordinary. The topic, sustainable cultural heritage, is quite challenging, yet the participants approached it with impressive creativity.
Great work Marc Kramer 👏
The eight finalist teams presented ideas such as the modernization of the water theatre at Hoàn Kiếm Lake, clothing designs incorporating traditional art, a video game focused on rebuilding the Hue Dynasty, a learning app with cultural-themed games, and more.
From a business plan perspective, most of their ideas are making sense in terms of feasibility, the concepts were undeniably modern and innovative.
Drawing from my years of experience, I could see that while their numbers were far from realistic, the ideas themselves had great potential. With the right guidance and experienced advisors, some of these ideas could soar to great heights.
What amazed me most was their use of modern technology in their presentations, their high proficiency in English, and their professional delivery. It’s a stark contrast to what I witnessed when I returned to Vietnam six years ago.
Honestly, I wasn’t anywhere near their level during my first semester of university! 🫠
I am incredibly excited about this new, well-educated generation of Gen-Z. While in Europe many Gen-Z individuals are perceived as lazy and lacking an understanding of the value of hard work, Gen-Z in Asia appears much hungrier and more driven to succeed (at least in my opinion).
The West no longer holds a clear advantage in education or technology. The only remaining edge lies in their passports and traditional family networks, but the question is: for how long?
Cheers! 🥳🍻
