I actually haven’t seen a single post about Dec 7, 1941, “A day that will live in infamy.” As a young private in the military, it’s was actually an old crusty E-6 Staff Sergeant Dave Anders who created an impact on me about the importance of remembering this date. On December 7, 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbor thrust the United States into World War II, challenging the Greatest Generation to confront unprecedented adversity. They responded with remarkable resilience, unity, and a commitment to service, both on the front lines and the home front. Key Lessons for Today’s Professionals: • Resilience in Adversity: Facing the Great Depression and global conflict, this generation demonstrated unwavering determination. In our careers, embracing resilience enables us to navigate challenges and emerge stronger. • Commitment to Service: Their collective efforts, from military service to supporting war production at home, highlight the impact of contributing to a greater cause. Prioritizing teamwork and community in our professional lives fosters a more collaborative and fulfilling environment. • Adaptability and Innovation: Confronted with rapidly changing circumstances, they adapted and innovated, leading to significant technological and societal advancements. I will never understand the act of signing bombs, fully aware that they will end innocent lives. I will never understand the laughter at the thought of taking a person’s life, even if it’s claimed as self-defense. I will never understand the fervor in defending self-defense for oneself while denying that same right to others. I will never understand turning 'the most lethal army in the world' into a badge of honor, a favorite talking point. I will never understand rejoicing in the death of children. I will never understand the endless support for the oppression of human beings. I will never understand forcefully and violently removing people from their homes and land simply because you want it for yourself—even when you already have another home. I will never understand how politics, money, or power can become more important than human lives. These are the things I struggle to comprehend in a world that seems to have lost its compassion and its humanity. Or perhaps it never existed.
