I think this is exactly the rebranding we needed, particularly during a time of political, economic, gender, racial and social divide not only in city, but worldwide.
I’ve always said St. Louis is a diamond in the rough, but we must remove the stigma of a “flyover” and crime-ridden city. This image rebrand isn’t just the role of city leaders and marketing agencies. It’s our job as citizens to accentuate the good.
I recently had back-to-back “micro visits” from sorority sisters visiting from Illinois. The attributes that many of us ignore and/or don’t explore are the same things they raved about: the food scene (ie Pharaohs Donuts, Turn Restaurant, Lombardo’s, Molly’s, Clementine’s, Medina and Level’s Nigerian; Red Hot Riplets; Toasted Ravioli; Red Hot Sundance Corn Chips; etc); the grafitti wall; the Saint Louis Zoo; our concert scene; the ease of Amtrak; the Art Bar and Angad Arts Hotel; brick homes; 21C Hotel; Kingside Diner; the St. Louis Zoo and the 50 years of hip hop exhibit at the Art Museum.
As a tier 2 city, we must showcase our city so that we can attract more visitors and not just for sports or conventions. We need more transient who may even someday consider St. Louis home.
