- Getting started with authenticity is fairly straightforward. Maybe the best way to begin is by stating what not to do. So first, remember, once you understand the concept and get excited about trying to apply it to your life, remember, you can't show up at work on Monday and look and act very differently than you did on Friday. If you start being far more expressive than usual, that's a huge departure from what everyone normally expects, which means you could run the risk of offending or confusing someone. That's why the best strategy with authenticity is what I call the toe in the water approach. It's like when you're testing the temperature of water before you get in. You don't just decide to jump in, you test it first. Authenticity is similar. Start small, gauge the reaction and then build from there.
