Reading hydraulic diagrams
- [Instructor] Let's take a look at a hydraulic valve symbol and analyze what all of the different symbols within it mean. Don't forget to check your symbol list and make sure that what you're seeing lines up with a good explanation on the key. So first of all, this is a 2-position valve, position 1 on the left and position 2 on the right. They're basically where the action is happening within the valve. It's got four connections. Connections number 1, 2, 3, and 4. They're duplicated from the left to the right because when the valve changes position, the action or work of the valve changes. You'll see that this is a solenoid-actuated valve, meaning an electrical signal can change the position of the valve. And also there's a spring return. If the solenoid or whatever else is making the valve open or close isn't on, the spring will return it to a natural position.
