Moving sections and pages

- [Instructor] Sections and pages within a notebook can easily be moved around the notebook. As you're building out that initial notebook structure or even later on after you've taken lots of notes, you might need to move or copy pages or even reorder the listed sections within a notebook, and I'm going to show you how to do this. It works a little different for some things in the desktop OneNote app, if you're familiar with that one, than it does here in the web app. Okay, first thing we need to do is show the navigation for the sections and pages. So let's go ahead and select Show Navigation. And now we're going to go ahead and move this Drone that paints page from the IoT Workshop section to the Makers Conference. And to do this, we're going to locate the page that we want to move, right-click over it, and from the menu, select Move Copy. Then next we're going to choose the section that's the location that we want to move this page to, which happens to be that Makers Conference. And then down at the bottom of this Move/Copy Page menu, we have the choice to either move the page or make a copy. Copy would be a duplicate, so it would keep the Drone that paints page within that IoT Workshop section, but make a duplicate of it and place it in the Makers Conference section as well. For this example, we'd like to move it, so let's go ahead and select Move. Notice we have a notification here letting us know that because we are moving this from one section to another, it's going to delete version and conflict information. So we haven't gotten into versions in this course yet, but that means that as you're making changes, it keeps a history of the page. That's the versions of it. And if you're sharing this notebook with someone else, it's also keeping those versions that that person or those other people have been making to that page as well. So if there are any conflicts that have not been resolved yet for the history of this, you're no longer going to have those available. So if you're concerned about that, you might want to say no to this and not move it quite yet. In this case, we don't have any conflicts or any version history that we need to keep, so we're going to say, "Okay, I want to go ahead and continue, yes." All right, now if we take a look, here we are in the Makers Conference section. Here is the Drone that paints page that we moved. If we go back to where it originally resided in IoT Workshop, it is no longer there. You can also drag and drop pages to a section. So if I'd like to move this Build your own robot, I can left-click and hold. Drag and drop directly over Makers Conference. And it has now moved that page as well. Now, sections are a bit different. You'll notice if I right-click over a section like this Makers Conference, in the menu, we do not have Move Section as a choice. You can't move a section from one notebook to another notebook, such as the desktop apps. You can, though, reorder your sections. And reordering is not going to be done from this context menu that you see, so let's click outside of that. It's going to be a left-click and drag. So if I would like to place Newsletter at the top, I can left-click, drag. Notice the bar that is indicating where it will be placed if I release the left mouse button. So I'm going to go here to the top, release it, and now we have moved Newsletter to the top of the section pane. And that is how you can move or copy pages and reposition the order of the sections.
