Oracle Cloud introduction
(gentle music) - [David] Let's start this lesson by taking a holistic view of Oracle Cloud and the different classifications of cloud services. While there are well over a couple of hundred of these services, at a high level, Oracle Cloud is classified into two main categories, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Cloud Applications. And of course, there are many different services within each category. Let's take a quick look into some of those services, starting with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, or more simply the acronym OCI. These are infrastructure and platform services that are designed to run any type of application. It could be a modern cloud native application or service, or any other mission critical workloads. The Global Cloud Datacenter Infrastructure is the physical foundation organized into geographic regions that comprise the OCI platform. Think of a region as a city or a location where you wish to use some OCI services. We'll be looking at these regions later in this course. Compute, storage, and networking together form the core services of OCI. The compute service provides compute capacity with CPUs and memory, often provisioned as virtual machines. Storage provides different service types for securely storing your data. And networking services allow you to manage and scale public or private networks, providing all sorts of connectivity options for any internal or external component. Of course, databases are always a critical component where you would organize and store information like the delivery address of a customer. These are database services that are cost-optimized as well as high performance and autonomous versions of Oracle databases. As a developer, you want to know how quickly you can build and deploy an application while leveraging the various OCI developer services, containers and functions, or even integrations with other applications. You have access to different tools to build, deploy, and manage any modern cloud application. Companies usually looking for business growth, and to achieve this, there should be corresponding data available on-demand to business owners. Using machine learning and artificial intelligence, Data Lakehouse, analytics, and business intelligence services, you can easily make applications more robust, gaining more insight across all your business data, which can certainly help organizations grow their business. Now storing most data such as customer information involves high security requirements. After all, data such as a customer's credit card is rather sensitive and often compliance regulations must be met. There are a number of security services for each and every layer, and we'll explore further in a separate security lesson. Observability and management services are used to monitor the environments to resolve any problems and even potential problems. There are also cost management and governance services to keep track of and manage your Oracle Cloud expenses. So in addition to running your own applications on OCI, we'll now take a quick look at Oracle Cloud Applications that are available, often referred to as software as a service or SaaS. Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP is a complete modern enterprise resource planning suite that provides your team with everything you need from financials, general ledger, accounts payable and receivables, project management, enterprise performance management, risk management and compliance, and ERP analytics. Supply chain management provides planning and centralized management of the flow of goods and services. For example, in an earlier lesson, we saw the use case of a customer buying products from online retailers. There are also services for inventory management, logistics, and blockchain. Human capital management includes services for human resources, which includes recruitment, workforce management, payroll, and HR analytics services. Oracle Advertising and Customer Experience is another set of services that offers to help with managing and serving lasting customer relationships. Oracle Industry Cloud Solutions are purpose-built applications, which will help you to build, run, and grow a business from top to bottom. There are several services for construction and engineering, communications, healthcare, and many more. So in addition to these, there are also independent software vendor and custom applications, which can be deployed on top of OCI. So in later lessons, we'll look more closely at each of these categories of Oracle Cloud Applications. Okay, that wraps up this lesson, an overview of both Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Services and Oracle Cloud Applications. Thanks for watching.
