Benefits of a network
- [Instructor] We know that a network interconnects two or more devices, but what benefits does that offer us? Let's consider a few. First, a network gives us the ability to share resources. For example, several employees in an office might need to share a common set of files or nearby printers. Another benefit of networking is communications. Examples of communications include not just email, but also voice calls using a technology called voiceover IP or VYP. We can even have video chats and send instant messages over a network. Yet another benefit is redundancy. If we have critical data stored on a computer acting as a file server, what if that computer breaks or what happens if it's destroyed by fire or flood? Do we lose all of our data? We certainly don't want that. So what we can do is send a copy of our data over a network connection to another location where a backup of that original data lives.
