- [Instructor] I'll wager you're considering moving part of your assets to the cloud. You're not alone. The call of the cloud is loud and strong. To start, it's a good idea to define some terms. What do people mean when they say the cloud? Perhaps you've heard the cynical answer, "It's just someone else's computer." That's a funny answer and there is a kernel of truth there, but nowadays, it's more complex than that. Let's go back in time a few decades and look at a classic network diagram. Despite the outdated appearance, these diagrams were useful for picturing how the network system was configured. Typically, anything outside the company network, like the internet, was represented with the cloud icon. You can see it in the lower right. That tiny cloud in the network diagram, which once represented the services outside the company firewall, is now a multi-billion dollar industry.
