What is infrastructure as a service (IaaS)?

- [Instructor] What comes to mind when you think of cloud? For many people, especially in the IT world, infrastructure as a service is what they envision. It's where Amazon made its cloud reputation with AWS and is a major part of how IT utilizes the cloud. Infrastructure as service, or IaaS, is on-demand access to cloud-hosted physical and virtual servers, storage, and networking. Think of it as the backend IT infrastructure for running applications and workloads in the cloud. IaaS allows customers to instantly build out new hardware and other network devices. Rather than doing it in-house, you have the IaaS provider provision the servers, virtual machines, hard drives, network switches, and firewalls. IaaS is essentially outsourcing your computer infrastructure to the cloud. With IaaS, you create your infrastructure out of rentable building blocks.
