Preparing to record MIDI
- [Instructor] Before recording MIDI, you'll want to load a sound, check to see that Ableton is receiving MIDI, and then set the tempo and count-in. So let's take a look at preparing to record MIDI in Ableton Live. So I've got a default set open, and I'm going to tab over to our arrangement view where we're going to work. Now let's load a simple sound, so I'm going to go into the Instruments category and I'm going to select Impulse and select the triangle to go into the device and see the available presets. And let's load something like Impulse 808. So I'm going to click, select that, and drag and drop that on the first MIDI track there. Now Impulse is a simple device that allows us to have eight samples loaded. And those are maps starting at middle-C or C3 up to C4, and that's only on the white keys. So, when I loaded that instrument onto the track, you'll notice that it's record enabled. So I should be able to play middle C and hear it. But I don't hear anything. So let's check out…
