The Staff Accountant reviews, classifies and distributes daily revenue, assists in preparing of financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:
Supervises the accuracy verification of Front Office, Food and Beverage and other revenue center activities.
Oversees the daily balancing of cash, direct bill, credit card and other revenue related accounts.
Monitors the daily auditing of in-room dining and banquet checks, event orders, cover counts and guarantees to ensure accuracy and completeness of information for billing.
Oversees and audits adjustments, paid-outs and miscellaneous charges to ensure appropriateness and conformity to established procedure, initiates/advises of corrections where necessary, reports deviations to management.
Finalize the daily revenue journal, daily F&B report and General Cashier’s report for posting to the general ledger.
Finalize and upload daily bank entries to the general ledger.
Prepare the daily income audit pack.
Prepares and distributes Daily/Weekly Revenue Report for distribution to hotel team and corporate office.
Reconcile credit card back-up to General Cashier Summary and informs Accounting Manager of any discrepancies.
Reconcile all third-party transactions and work with hotel team on discrepancies.
Reconcile and balance state and local taxes daily.
Assists in the reconciliation of Clearance Accounts.
Assist in monthly surprise cash count on all cash-handling positions.
Assist in monthly Inventory Audits.
Review and Maintain residential billing accounts.
Review commissions due to authorized travel agencies.
Performs other duties assigned by Hotel Controller, Assistant Hotel Controller or Accounting Manager.
Assist the Assistant Hotel Controller and Accounting Manager in any month-end activities as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical Activities include lifting twenty pounds with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Long periods of sitting is required. Seeing, hearing, talking, walking, lifting, reaching, bending, handling, fingering, feeling, grasping. Considerable repetitive motion of hands and wrists as relates to the use of office machines such as computer keyboards.
Requires the ability to operate and control office machines as relates to starting, stopping, adjusting, or controlling the progress of work.
SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of accounting operations relative to the hotel, income audit, accounts receivable, etc.
Basic mathematics skills
Computer knowledge
Approach all encounters with associates and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner
Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to understand and communicate with fellow associates and guests
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Associate's degree (A.A) in Accounting, Business or related field;
OR equivalent from two-year college or technical school;
OR two years accounting or revenue audit experience required
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum of 2 years as a Staff Accountant or similar
OR Minimum of 1+ years of Income Audit experience
Prior hospitality experience preferred
