Job Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for reconciling the University’s bank accounts, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are promptly identified and resolved. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the financial integrity of the university and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform Bank Reconciliations:
Reconcile daily bank transactions to the University’s general ledger
Reconcile the University’s general ledger to the monthly bank statements
Identify and investigate discrepancies or irregularities in financial transactions.
Monitor Transactions:
Communicate with other departments re: any discrepancies in postings and outstanding items.
Monitor, Research and Resolve Discrepancies:
Investigate and resolve any discrepancies between bank records and the University’s records.
Maintain Accurate Financial Records:
Ensure that all financial records are up-to-date, accurate, and compliant with accounting standards and University policies.
Escheatment Process Management:
Monitor stale checks
Oversee and manage the entire escheatment process, including identifying unclaimed property, due diligence, and reporting to relevant state authorities.
Assists with year-end audit tasks and schedules as required
Reconciles various general ledger accounts as assigned
Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3 years of experience in complex bank reconciliation or a similar finance/accounting role.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel.
Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
