Position: Senior Accountant
Reports to: Vice President, Controller

Position Overview
The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, reporting, and compliance activities. Working closely with the Finance team, this individual leads activities for various accounting functions, including but not limited to, general ledger maintenance, financial analysis, budgeting, and audit preparation. Primary functions include preparing accurate financial statements, overseeing general accounting operations, and ensuring all financial transactions align.
Primary Responsibilities
Process daily bank deposits and credit card donations.
Prepare journal entries to record revenue from government and private sources.
Assist the Senior Director, Accounting in performing the bi-weekly payroll functions on an accurate and timely basis. This includes analysis of all payroll data and posting of bi-weekly payroll journal entries in Great Plains.
Prepare monthly closing entries and perform various account analyses.
Prepare monthly and quarterly balance sheet general ledger account reconciliations.
Perform monthly bank account reconciliation.
Maintain fixed assets list and account for depreciation.
Maintain temporarily restricted net assets schedule.
Assist with preparing monthly financial statements.
Work closely with grants management staff to ensure timely and accurate submission of expense vouchers.
Prepare standard and ad hoc management and department budget reports.
Assist with preparation of budgets and forecasts.
Assist with year-end close and the annual audit.
Assist with preparing the annual Form 990 Return.
Provide backup, as required, for the accounts payable function.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA is a plus.
Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience in accounting or auditing.
Previous non-profit industry experiences desired.
High degree of proficiency in the use of financial software applications including Excel and Word.
Knowledge of GreatPlains, Financial Edge, and Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interface with various levels of management.
Must be detail-oriented and be able to work in a meticulous, thorough, and precise manner.
Must possess the ability to assume non-routine tasks and to take initiative where appropriate.
Must possess a strong follow-through on all projects; ability to bring projects to timely completion.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

The final determination of salary, within this range, will depend on the candidate’s education, skills and experience required for the particular position.
