An established and rapidly expanding insurance organization is seeking a Reinsurance Accounting Supervisor to join its growing team. This role focuses on managing complex treaty quota share accounts while overseeing a Junior Accountant. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in reinsurance accounting, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to navigate a fast-paced environment.


Location: Onsite in Manhattan, NY (4-5 days/week) - relocation assistance provided

Comp: Up to 175K + bonus + benefits


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage ceded treaty and facultative reinsurance accounts, including complex transactions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of reinsurance-related financial transactions, including premiums, claims, and commissions.
  • Work closely with management to validate financial data accuracy.
  • Oversee cash application processes, generate cash call billings, track collections, and prepare aging reports for receivables/payables.
  • Supervise and mentor a Junior Accountant, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies and industry regulations while continuously improving accounting processes.
  • Conduct reconciliations, generate ad-hoc reports, and support upper management with financial reporting and regulatory filings.
  • Assist with statutory reporting (e.g., Schedule F) and internal/external audits.
  • Analyze reinsurance data to identify discrepancies, trends, and areas for improvement, working alongside various departments to resolve issues.
  • Serve as a key contact for internal and external stakeholders on reinsurance accounting matters.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of reinsurance accounting experience, with a focus on Treaty and Facultative processing (both ceded and assumed preferred).
  • Proven leadership experience, with strong supervisory and mentorship abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of reinsurance principles, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel (advanced functions preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with reinsurance platforms such as RiPro (URS) or SRM (Sapiens) is a plus.
