Job Description

On - Site: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Lansing Delta, on a full-time basis.

The Role:

As the manufacturing engineering lead you will support ongoing manufacturing operations through leading a team of weld and robotics engineers and process techs. The role of Manufacturing Engineering Lead/Continuous Improvement Manager will ensure planned sustainment of equipment and process compliance and lead continuous improvement activities.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Project culture of safety through adherence to Workplace Safety Systems (WSS).
  • Champion for GMS basketweaves; lead attainment and sustainment for BIQ IV.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance, production and quality counterparts including: breakdown management and root cause, plant floor systems, maintenance planning.
  • Lead and submit planned sustainment of equipment using the ACAP and GPR process.
  • Manage Non-Product Portfolio (NPP) funding; forecast, plan and execute NPP projects.
  • Coordinate with other departments on productivity, maintenance/sustainment projects, process control and Throughput Improvement Process (TIP).
  • Ownership of the body shop 6 Pillars of Quality Process.
  • Interface with BIW, ME, VS and central weld engineering regarding launch, innovation, and NPP alignment.
  • Lead sufficiency activities related to product quality as they pertain to the paint and end customer; drive quantifiable results through departmental counterparts.
  • People leader of 4 direct reports.


Additional Job Description

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or 5 years of equivalent experience.
  • High level of interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Body Shop operations.
  • Experience with resistance spot welding and/or weld engineering.
  • Experience with operations planned sustainment.
  • Experience with productivity and leading Continuous Improvement workshops.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and MS Teams.
  • Ability to function at a high level in an ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team.


What Gives You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Prior experience in controls engineering and Plant Floor Systems.
  • Advanced experience with MS Excel.
  • OpEx project development and execution.
  • Working Knowledge of GM Common Controls Architecture, GCCS, GCCH.
  • Experience with ACAP and GPR processes (asset sustainment).
  • Experience with SAP, Capital Management Forecast & Cost Database (CMFC).
  • Experience with Throughput Improvement Process (TIP), Downtime Reporting (DTR), Tableau.
  • Experience with body shop automation, robotics, conveyors, and error-proofing.
  • Knowledge of Plant Floor Systems; Global Production, Monitoring & Control (GPMC), Andon, Production Routing & Tracking (PR&T).
  • Familiar with GMS and BIQ IV; execution of tasks to achieve and maintain metrics.
  • Familiar with body shop Process Quality Requirement System (PQRS), Process Control Plans (PCP) and Technical Equipment Bulletins (TEB).
  • Knowledge of Maximo.
