About The Role
Moxie is looking for a Controller with deep tax expertise to take ownership of our financial operations, ensuring compliance, financial health, and strategic growth. This role requires a balance between hands-on accounting and tax work and high-level financial planning. You’ll lead tax compliance and optimization across multiple entities, own the corporate books and financial reporting, and scale systems that support Moxie’s rapid growth. You’ll also oversee vendor management, financial tools, and strategic planning while ensuring financial accuracy and compliance at every level.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Expertise & Compliance Ownership
- Lead all corporate tax planning, preparation, and compliance activities, including federal, state, and local tax filings.
- Own the tax function across multiple entities—ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Stay ahead of tax regulatory changes and proactively adjust processes to remain compliant and optimize Moxie’s tax position.
- Design and implement scalable tax processes that support operational efficiency and growth.
- Oversee Moxie’s corporate books, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements.
- Manage payroll reporting, 1099 filings, and ensure full compliance with tax and labor regulations.
- Establish and maintain internal controls to reduce risk and protect financial health.
- Oversee and scale sales tax processes including reporting, invoicing, and registration of certificates across 150+ managed corporations.
- Maintain good standing for all entities through accurate and timely state filings.
- Select and manage financial software to track and analyze performance across Moxie and its managed corporations.
- Lead vendor management across departments to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance.
- Oversee Ramp accounts, managing expenses, reimbursements, and corporate cards.
- Deliver financial insights that drive strategic decisions across the business.
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools that enhance visibility into financial performance.
- Continuously improve financial systems and introduce automation to increase efficiency.
- Tax-Focused Financial Expert: You have deep knowledge of tax compliance, corporate filings, and planning across multiple entities.
- Scalable Systems Thinker: You’ve built tax and financial processes that scale with company growth.
- Detail-Oriented and Strategic: You can toggle between deep operational ownership and big-picture financial planning.
- Technically Proficient: You know your way around financial tools and automation systems.
- Collaborative Communicator: You’re a trusted financial partner to leadership and teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification required, with extensive experience in tax preparation and compliance for multi-entity organizations.
- 4+ years of experience in accounting or finance within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to manage corporate and sales tax across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and financial controls.
- Experience with financial software, ERP systems, and automation tools.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Own the Tax & Finance Function → Lead and optimize tax and financial operations across Moxie’s growing footprint.
