OCG is part of the H-D Advanced Manufacturing (HD) family, and more specifically is part of the Precision Products Group. HD is a high precision manufacturing company formed in December 2012. It was formed with an audacious goal in mind – to achieve an enterprise value in excess of $1.0 billion with five years. H-D and its shareholders believe this goal is readily achievable given the Company’s talented operating executives, the shareholders willingness to provide capital for investment and acquisitions and the team’s ability to unearth unique and proprietary acquisition opportunities. Currently HD has 3 verticals with 11 manufacturing locations throughout the US.

Position Overview

OCG is looking for a dynamic Engineering Manager who has a proven track record of driving and instilling process driven decision and discipline in a manufacturing environment. The candidate that OCG chooses will need to have a strong bias for action, be a hands on leader passionate about the position, be a team player who will support any team member at any time with any issue, be a coach, mentor and a key part of a growing organization. And most importantly, it must be engrained in selected candidate to do whatever it takes to make a difference in the organization that they are part of and having that can do attitude daily.

The chosen candidate will be responsible for overseeing and supporting all 3 Chicago area facilities and participate in all aspects of the organization’s drive for improving our engineering system to become a world class leader in all we do and the products we sell. You will be part of the Senior Team who will continue to work together to grow the company while at the same time making sure we stay abreast with improving all aspects of our quality systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing the Production Engineering Department and all aspect of this department Maintain emphasis on product by developing, directing and implementing strategies in support of overall business goals.
  • Evaluate/Approve new processes and equipment to meet quality standards and advise for improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership, direction and coach across all levels of the organization - to assure all engineering and quality standards are met. Interact with all departments as needed to assure mission and company goals are properly communicated.
  • Work closely with Sales and Engineering, for the understanding of product specifications and engineering needs for each of our customers to ensure proper controls are in place.
  • Lead and mentor team members while encourage professional growth
  • Be a change agent for the business in helping the leadership team drive culture change throughout the organization.
  • Work to build a team committed to manufacturing excellence by keeping up with machine and tool technologies to keep us in front of the competition.
  • All other duties and activities as assigned or necessary to support the Operation

Success Factors

The Engineering Manager will be tasked daily with ensuring our drive forward into building the companies leading, coaching, training and events within the organization to drive a cultural shift and focus on increasing quality of products, ensuring reduced production times and cost and driving the organization to a world class business model. This is a hands on teach, show, and drive results person who has a vast knowledge, good at coaching and leading and who has a deep knowledge and a tool box of tools in the engineering arena. The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Do an initial assessment of our engineering systems and team and at the end of 30 days present to the senior staff that assessment and gaps, with a plan to address top 3.
  • Within 90 days put together a plan for the 2018 year showing the quality changes, actions, names and dates to take us to the next level. This plan should be put together with the plant leadership participation and buy in and presented to the senior team.
  • Have the ability to train, coach and mentor the team on a world class engineering culture and why it is important.
  • On a monthly basis present changes and improvements toward the 2018 goals and objectives.

Experience/Traits

  • 5 or more year’s prior engineering experience in a metals manufacturing environment a plus. Gearing experience a PLUS.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, including senior management, customers and employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate and interact within all levels of the organization.
  • Effective problem analysis and problem resolution at all levels.
  • Risk management minded individual with strong cognitive thinking and able to solve complex problems.
  • Proven track record of success, driving performance results, in a resource-lean environment working across all functions of the business.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage all engineering related aspects of the business.
  • Strong combination of strategic vision and the ability to get involved on a “hands-on” basis.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to plan and execute activities self-directed.
  • Ability to provide guidance to team members to manage deliverables timely.
  • Strong team builder with exceptional experience leading, managing and developing top talent into future leaders.

Education

  • BS degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years’ industry experience in product manufacturing, including 5+ years in a leadership role
