Controller – Building Materials & Home Improvement Industry
An established family-owned business in the building materials and home improvement sector is seeking a Controller to join its leadership team. With a strong reputation for quality craftsmanship and customer service, the company has grown significantly, operating across multiple locations. Role Overview
The Controller will play a critical role in modernizing financial operations, strengthening internal controls, and building a high-performing accounting team. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role requires a strategic leader with strong technical expertise, process improvement experience, and a passion for driving efficiency. The Controller will ensure the integrity of financial reporting, implement scalable processes, and provide insightful analysis to support key business decisions. This is a hands-on role for a proactive leader eager to make a lasting impact in a growing and evolving company.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and the general ledger.
Oversee the preparation of accurate financial statements and manage the period-end close process.
Assess, modernize, and implement improved financial processes, systems, and internal controls.
Build and develop a high-performing accounting team to support the company’s growth.
Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial projections to support strategic initiatives.
Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency.
Maintain cash flow management strategies to ensure financial stability.
Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and compliance-related activities.
Oversee treasury functions, including cash flow optimization and financing strategies.
Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
CPA certification preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
Proven experience in building and leading accounting teams.
Track record of modernizing financial processes and systems.
Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment, with cost accounting knowledge preferred.
Strong analytical skills with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills to develop future company leaders.
Multi-location financial management experience is a plus.
