Our client, a rapidly scaling VC backed food & beverage startup is looking to add a Controller to own the entire accounting function. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of financial reporting, compliance, and operational accounting to support our expanding business. As the Controller, you will directly manage the accounting function, provide strategic financial insights, and ensure our systems scale effectively as they grow.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the accounting team to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with company goals.
Collaborate closely with the executive team to develop and execute financial strategies that support business growth.
Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards (Source: CPA professional standards).
Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Design and implement budgeting processes and tools to achieve financial objectives.
Monitor performance against budgets and provide regular variance analysis.
Establish and maintain an effective internal control environment to safeguard the company’s assets and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Manage annual audits and work closely with external auditors.
Drive process improvements and systems automation to support scalability as the company grows.
Assess financial software solutions and lead implementation of improved tools as needed.
Partner with operations, sales, and marketing teams to align financial goals with business strategy.
Support inventory management, supply chain costing, and retail analytics.
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of progressive financial and accounting experience, preferably in food & beverage, consumer goods, retail or manufacturing.
CPA designation required. Prior public accounting experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
