We are hiring a Controller for our client, a dynamic and growing private equity-backed company based in Chicago. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced Controller out of manufacturing or construction.


Job Summary:

The Controller is a key member of the management team and is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the company. This includes financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, and process improvements. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, along with a deep understanding of job costing and percentage of completion. This will be an opportunity to work with a private equity firm as the financial steward for their portfolio company.


Responsibilities:


Financial Accounting

  • Responsible for financial and operational accounting, including A/R, A/P, and Payroll.
  • Oversee the billing and invoicing process.
  • Lead month-end close.


Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide insightful reports to management.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor business performance.
  • Oversee the annual audit process.


Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and develop accurate financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget variances and provide explanations for deviations.
  • Develop and implement financial models to support strategic decision-making.


Cost Accounting

  • Maintain accurate systems to track job costs.
  • Analyze job costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Oversee month-end percentage of completion and WIP.


Financial Compliance & Internal Controls:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and tax laws.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Implement and maintain effective financial policies and procedures.


Systems & Process Improvement

  • Evaluate and improve existing financial systems and processes.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation and efficiency gains.
  • Work with ERP systems, and implement improvements.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or CMA certification (preferred).
  • Minimum of 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably from manufacturing or construction.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software.
  • Experience with standard costing.
  • Experience with managing audits.
