The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a vital leadership role at Thunderbolt, a high-concept, award-winning cocktail bar with a strong neighborhood presence and a deep commitment to exceptional hospitality. This is a hands-on, service-driven position with a particular emphasis on culinary oversight. The AGM supports daily operations, works closely with the General Manager, and helps ensure all departments—front and back of house—operate with consistency, excellence, and integrity. This role requires a strong background in kitchen operations, a passion for team development, and a sharp focus on aligning the food experience with the caliber of our renowned beverage program.

Reporting to the General Manager, the AGM supports the team in real-time, drives culinary and service consistency, and strengthens leadership across departments. This role is ideal for someone with extensive kitchen and front-of-house experience who brings a sharp eye for cost control, service excellence, and team development—while keeping the guest experience front and center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Promote Company Mission, Vision and Core Values.
  • Lead by example during service. The AGM is an active presence on the floor, setting the standard for professionalism, warmth, and attentiveness. By being hands-on during shifts, they support staff in real time, ensure smooth operations, and create a guest experience rooted in genuine hospitality.
  • Oversee kitchen operations and culinary standards. With a strong background in BOH operations, the AGM ensures the kitchen delivers high-quality food that reflects the bar’s standards. This includes maintaining consistency, training kitchen staff, improving execution, and elevating the overall culinary experience to complement the beverage program.
  • Drive food cost management and operational efficiency. The AGM monitors food costs, inventory, and waste to keep the kitchen financially on track. They make real-time adjustments as needed and collaborate with the GM to refine systems and increase profitability without compromising on quality or service.
  • Ensure a consistently exceptional guest experience. By staying close to the guest journey, the AGM proactively resolves concerns and creates memorable experiences through thoughtful service. They build relationships with regulars, encourage staff to do the same, and help maintain Thunderbolt’s reputation as a welcoming, high-touch hospitality destination.
  • Maintain service flow and shift control. The AGM oversees daily service logistics, including staffing levels, pacing, and shift transitions. They anticipate challenges, adapt in real time, and ensure that both front- and back-of-house operations run smoothly and cohesively.
  • Execute and support special events and activations. In partnership with the GM, the AGM helps plan and execute private events, pop-ups, and buyouts. They ensure service during these events is seamless and aligned with the brand’s standards, and that both kitchen and bar teams are prepared to deliver.
  • Monitor performance metrics and support financial goals. Using tools like POS reporting and inventory tracking, the AGM evaluates sales, labor, and costs, particularly in the kitchen. They use this data to make smart operational decisions that align with broader business targets.
  • Ensure compliance and uphold operational standards. The AGM is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work environment. They uphold health, safety, and alcohol regulations while reinforcing Thunderbolt’s internal standards for organization and professionalism.

Essential Functions/Position Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to raise a tray weighing up to 25 lbs to shoulder height
  • Able to bend, stoop, reach, wipe, lift, and grab
  • Must have sufficient mobility to move and operate in work area
  • Must be able to stand and walk throughout a 4 to 8 hour shift
  • Must be able to hear well in a loud environment to respond to employee and guest needs
  • Must meet any state, county or municipal regulation pertaining to health risk concerns about food handling
  • Must be able to observe and differentiate between monetary denominations
  • Must be able to serve all menu products
  • Must be able to operate point of sale system
  • Must be able to work around potentially hazardous chemicals
  • Minimum Age requirements of 21.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Meets uniform and grooming standards and maintains them throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to pass all required tests and training requirements.
  • Must meet any state, country or municipal regulation pertaining to health risk concerns about food handling and legal requirements for serving alcohol.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, nights and weekends.
  • Possesses excellent guest service skills.
  • Able to learn basic tasks and follow instructions.
  • Places a value on diversity and shows respect for others.
