Job Summary
The Assistant Controller will play a key role responsible for managing and directing activities of the Accounting & Finance team to support JRMs Execution and delivery of its’ core business activities on time, consistently and with high quality. The position will report directly to the Corporate Controller and have significant interaction with the Chief Financial Officer as well as other leaders throughout the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial forecasting and reporting, including preparation for annual audits.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including detailed financial analysis of the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow in accordance with GAAP.
Report directly to the Corporate Controller, providing weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial updates.
Oversee general ledger reconciliations and consolidated financial reporting, including P&L and Balance Sheet.
Assist FP&A in partnering with department leaders, the CFO, and Corporate Controller to develop annual budgets for 10+ departments, including monthly forecasting and variance analysis.
Maintain strong relationships with department heads to ensure accuracy and transparency in financial reporting.
Prepare monthly and quarterly consolidated workpapers, reviewing and analyzing the general ledger for accuracy and completeness.
Monitor daily cash balances and manage bank reconciliations across multiple corporate accounts.
Record journal entries to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
Process estimated quarterly corporate tax payments and prepare annual sales tax returns.
Develop and implement internal financial controls and policies to support strategic business goals.
Collaborate with senior leadership to align financial systems, policies, and infrastructure with organizational objectives.
Lead compliance initiatives and coordinate external audits, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and best practices.
Coordinate with external firms for preparation of tax returns and support for semi-annual and annual audits.
Supervise and provide training to accounting staff, fostering an efficient and knowledgeable team environment.
Assist the CFO and Controller with special projects and recommend enhancements to accounting processes and policies.
Qualifications
At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role (e.g., Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller.)
A bachelor’s degree in accounting
CPA accreditation or working towards is a plus; alternatively, an MBA in Accounting/Finance with proficiency in accounting principles and advanced technical skills, such as financial statement preparation and reporting, reconciliations, and variance analysis
In depth knowledge of accounting theory and application of Accounting Principles
Must be able to work and manage effectively in a team environment and set priorities to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects
Ability to clearly communicate complex accounting and financial concepts to team members across various functions
Computer Systems
MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Sage 300 (Timberline) is a plus
Salary Information
To the extent this position is performed in New York, the annual salary range for this role is $120,000-150,000.
The range stated is specific to New York. Placement within the listed range depends on many factors including, but not limited to, years of experience, project size capability (for Construction related & Field specific roles) and internal company equity.
