Today we unveil our inaugural list of Skills on the Rise in Product Management, a data-backed ranking of the 10 fastest-growing skills that product managers should be investing in to get ahead in today’s world of work. Whether it’s AI Literacy (No. 4) or Agile Application Development (No. 8), the list highlights the technical fluency required to succeed as a product manager. At the same time, they also show that broader, strategic skills like Innovative Thinking (No. 3) and Stakeholder Engagement (No. 9) are equally critical in bringing a product from idea to reality. To compile the list, we looked at unique LinkedIn data to reveal the product management skills that professionals are increasingly adding and that companies are increasingly hiring for. This is a dangerous moment for PMs. My crystal ball take is that the job of PM is on the cusp of a major overhaul due to AI. Take a look at products like ChatPRD and ChatSQL. The role as we know it today will no longer exist in a year, if not much sooner. The tactical knowledge required at the moment to accomplish labor-intense activities like resource allocation, roadmapping, PRD development, market research, API articulation, prioritization techniques, and Agile practices (and more!) will be a relic of a simpler time for PMs. My advice is to throw out any notion of a traditional set of PM activities and elevate your perspective. Grow your strategic acumen, your commitment to diagnosing customer pain and harvesting customer signals, your methods to help you identify and target product market fit, your understanding of operational needs, your interactions with leadership, and most importantly, generative AI mastery.
Adding one more, ownership which is non negotiable.
Great insights, Juliette Faraut This list highlights how product managers need both technical fluency and strategic leadership. AI Literacy (#4) is now essential as AI reshapes product development. Executive Presence (#7) & Stakeholder Engagement (#9) reinforce the need for strong communication and influence. APIs (#10) show how technical understanding is key for scaling products. I’d add Data Storytelling and AI-driven Decision Making as rising skills—PMs who translate data into insights will lead the future. Excited to hear more perspectives! #SkillsOnTheRise
Keep it simple! Human interaction will prevail…Get close to your customers to deeply understand their pain points and needs. This is how value is unlocked.
To me AI literacy and stakeholder engagement stand out the most. As AI continues to shape product development, PMs who understand its capabilities and limitations will make better strategic decisions. At the same time, strong stakeholder management is essential for aligning teams and driving execution in complex organizations. One skill I see rising in demand is data-driven decision-making. PMs today need to move beyond intuition and leverage analytics to guide product strategy, measure impact, and prioritize effectively.
In today's rapidly evolving landscape, product managers should harness the power of AI to streamline daily operations, enhance decision-making, and drive efficiency. Beyond leveraging AI, they must continuously innovate and refine their products whether it's a mobile app, web platform, or SaaS solution to stay ahead of market trends, meet evolving user needs, and maintain a competitive edge. By integrating AI-driven insights, automation, and personalization, product managers can optimize user experiences, improve feature adoption, and accelerate growth while ensuring their products remain relevant and future-proof.
