Housing shouldn’t just be for hedge funds. It should be for people—first-time buyers, working families, and anyone chasing stability. That’s why I just renewed my support for YIMBY Action, a movement fighting for pro-housing policies across the country. I’m Rob, based in Hampton, VA. By day, I’m a data science & operations research analyst for the U.S. Air Force. Nights and weekends? I focus on real estate—most recently as a general partner on a 27-townhome community outside Salt Lake City. We’re working to rezone and subdivide the property so we can sell 27 individually owned starter homes, instead of keeping them locked in a rental-only portfolio. It’s a simple idea with big impact: • More affordability • More paths to ownership • Smarter, more sustainable land use I got into housing because I believe it’s one of the most powerful ways we can end homelessness and protect the natural environment. Denser, walkable communities reduce sprawl, conserve resources, and build climate resilience. Grateful to be part of this movement—and inspired by leaders like Seth and Grayson pushing for better housing policy in Virginia. If you care about zoning reform, housing equity, or building smarter cities—let’s connect. #YIMBY #HousingForAll #StarterHomes #ZoningReform #SustainableCities #MultifamilyInvesting #EnvironmentalImpact #ClimateResilience

  • New episode of Infill just dropped 🎧 In this episode, YIMBY Law's Executive Director, Sonja Trauss, sits down with Sara Bronin—architect, attorney, professor, and author—for a deep dive into the rules that shape where and how we live. They discuss findings from the National Zoning Atlas, the power of local zoning codes, and how land use policy affects everything from housing affordability and environmental sustainability to food systems and even nightlife. Tune into the episode 👇 https://lnkd.in/gar_jxQU

Last night, I had the great fortune to mingle with other YIMBYs from around Richmond and other parts of the state over some brews! We got the chance to discuss #housingpolicy and legislation, #landuse, #zoning, and more. We also got to hear from Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg and Delegate Shelly Simonds about what they hope to see in the field of housing development. Many thanks to RVA YIMBY Action for setting this up, to everyone who came out, and to Final Gravity Brewing Co. for hosting! 🍺🏠

One thing folks may not know about me, is that on top of my work on social issues and technology, I also work on housing activism in the San Francisco Bay Area as a volunteer lead for SF YIMBY-YIMBY Action One of my grand "theories of change" rests on breaking up ongoing and systemic patterns of "exclusionary design" in American (and more broadly North American) Society a.k.a. how we empower home owning residents of high opportunity and highly-resourced localities (in close proximity to dynamic city centers and thriving jobs hubs) to easily block densification, and by proxy block, integration of their neighborhoods by race and class. Such is the reason why teachers are priced out of their own school districts. Such is the reason janitors and barrista's need to commute several hours from far flung (and increasingly financially insolvent) suburbs just so they can serve the needs of highly resourced residents, including those who do not want them as neighbors. It's these patterns which make coastal hubs, including the Bay Area, among the most segregated regions in America by race and class, despite having diverse populations in the aggregate. My group is working to change that! One of the most consequential upzonings in #sanfrancisco history has been released, and thus, the most significant opportunity to break up low-density patterns in the City's high-resource west side region. This would be a huge chip chiselled away from the exclusionary legacy of SF's West side which has forcefully imposed single-family neighborhood character, and thereby, selective access to a job rich city center reserved only for those lucky enough to afford home ownership in San Francisco. But it is not a done deal yet. I am sharing our petition for residents of #sanfrancisco who care about this issue. https://lnkd.in/gGazF6SR I am happy to address all questions and concerns in the comments or by DM! Thank you for reading.

  • #YIMBYWin Our Abundant Housing Illinois chapter recently endorsed Daniel Biss for Mayor of Evanston, IL. Our members got out and did some door-knocking and phone banking to support his campaign. 💪 Looks like their efforts paid off because Daniel Biss won the election on Tuesday night 🥳 It is critical that we have pro-housing elected officials in our communities who are ready to take action to build more homes for community members. YIMBYs are ready to fight for pro-housing candidates who will help us build a future of abundant housing for everyone! We're just getting started 🔥

  • Virginians are suffering under the status quo with their current housing policy. When our leaders have an opportunity to take action to help build more homes for their constituents, they HAVE to take it. We can build a future where everyone has access to a home they can afford in a vibrant, inclusive, diverse community. But we have to do the work if we want to get there.
