At Yale New Haven Health’s Smilow Cancer Hospital, we’re delivering pioneering research from Yale Cancer Center, Connecticut’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, to improve people’s lives every single day. Like Issac Kim, MD, chief of Urology, Yale New Haven Hospital, and chair of Urology, Yale School of Medicine, who uses a minimally invasive surgical approach to remove the prostate, which shows promise in enhancing the effectiveness of chemo and hormonal therapies for men with late-stage prostate cancer. http://ynh.care/C2

Struggling with brain fog? Feeling sluggish and tired all the time? It might be worth getting a complete blood count (CBC) test to check for anemia. Anemia is one of the most common blood disorders that can occur due to reduced levels of hemoglobin, an iron-rich protein found in red blood cells that carries oxygen in the body. There are different causes of anemia, but iron deficiency anemia is the most common. It can be caused by blood loss such as menstrual bleeding or conditions that can cause gastrointestinal bleeding such as Crohn’s disease , decreased dietary intake, poor absorption of iron which can happen after bariatric surgery, antacid medications or Celiac disease, and pregnancy. "I'm excited about not having the tremors and to not have to be figuring out ways to hide them,” said Deborah Ewen, the first Greenwich Hospital patient to have high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to treat the essential tremor condition she had experienced in her right hand for 40 years. HIFU is also for tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease and the procedure was performed by neurosurgeon Zion Zibly, MD, of Yale Medicine, director, Neuromodulation programs at Yale New Haven and Greenwich hospital; and associate professor, Neurosurgery, Yale School of Medicine, along with neurologist Alice Rusk, MD, associate professor, clinical neurology, YSM, medical director, Yale Medicine Neurology, section head, neurology, Greenwich Hospital.
