Industry Friends, This week the University of the Aftermarket is pleased to present Session 2 of #Leadership2.0 from Hendrick Automotive Group in Charlotte, NC. This class in tactical leadership for the aftermarket is a tremendous learning experience, with excellent presenters and supporters, and a robust cohort of aftermarket leaders. THANK YOU to Hendrick Automotive for their generous hospitality! THANK YOU to the University of the Aftermarket Foundation (UAF), MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers and Auto Care Association for their unwavering support and commitment to continuous education. Today we hear a 1st person perspective of our Sunday keynote and opening session from Tod Kindelspire, Brake Category Manager, XL Parts | The Parts House. “It was a fantastic start to the week attending Northwood University's Leadership 2.0, Week 2. Our keynote speaker, Paul McCarthy, President of MEMA, presented key topics for discussion. He emphasized that our industry is all about people—how we attract new talent, train them, and keep them engaged. Having been in the industry for over 40 years, it's inspiring to see the next generation of leaders here, continuing to learn and grow in our business. As Paul aptly quoted, “the best suppliers are winning on the human capital side.” We must continue to mentor our new team members into the future leaders our industry needs. Some key takeaways included: · The need for more cross-training · Promoting from within · How do we measuring knowledge transfer as a KPI · Culture beats strategy every day · The significant issue of losing people in every facet of our industry One way to address the loss of people is through the Coffee Club, an initiative by the University of the Aftermarket Foundation. The top answers were AI, technology, and margin erosion. It was fascinating to learn that ADAS and sensor growth will explode in the foreseeable future, with sensors expected to increase by 50% by 2035. All new “Hard Parts” suppliers are looking for ways to add sensors, leading to more data to export and study. Paul concluded the discussion with the Right to Repair Act. We need to continue pushing our senators to pass this bill. If nothing is done, it could lead to a 45% loss in the aftermarket business, amounting to $167 billion. I can't wait to see what else I can learn and share in the aftermarket business this week.” The next session of Leadership 2.0 begins in August 2025.
