From CEOs earning 344x more than the average worker to companies using "impact" as a PR tool—this isn’t just about broken systems. It’s about the people left behind. It’s time for a shift from performative sustainability to true accountability and collective change. Swipe to explore how capitalism could evolve—if we dare to challenge the status quo. • “The growth of social media has forced companies into a much more interactive and fraught relationship with a bigger group of stakeholders.” We speak with Alison Taylor, the author of Higher Ground, a business consultant, and a clinical associate professor at NYU Stern School of Business. She lays out how companies can have a credible commitment to social impact (more than just good PR), and how the landscape of corporate ethics has shifted in the 2020s.👇

  • In today’s economic landscape, the idea that business success must come at the expense of social responsibility is outdated. For too long, businesses have prioritized short-term profit over the wellbeing of workers, communities, and the planet. Companies that dare to lead with purpose are showing that corporate activism isn’t a trend. It’s a strategic imperative. So how can companies move from performative “engagement” to authentic investment in impact? • Let’s cut the PR spin and build real trust, says Alison Taylor, clinical associate professor at NYU Stern School of Business. In today’s transparent world, empty promises and polished statements won’t cut it. Stakeholders—from employees to investors—can see when actions don’t match words. Instead of trying to please everyone, smart companies identify the few material issues that align with their values and operations—then follow through with real, measurable progress. • Are we working faster… or just burning out quicker? 😵💫 The modern workplace moves at a speed that would be almost unrecognizable just a few decades ago. Research shows the average project timeline has shrunk dramatically—from weeks to days, sometimes hours. Slack messages replace memos, deliverables are “ASAP,” and the clock never really stops ticking. Meanwhile, there is a growing trend where Gen Z is expressing nostalgia for the 1990s. Why would a generation image a time they never lived? Is this just retro aesthetic that lives on TikTok, or a real desire for more sustainable, human-paced work? We are working more and the mental load of multitasking, rapid deadlines, and digital acceleration has only resulted in higher rates of burnout, job-hopping, and quiet quitting. We’re curious how different generations feel about the pace of work today vs. the recent past. Tell us which decade of work you think is better and why. Drop your age in the comments, we’d love to hear the generational perspective!👇

  • Why are we working more and living less? ⏳ In 2020, The Brookings Institution examined the concept of time as a scarce resource. While life expectancy has increased and work hours have declined in many high-income nations, the U.S. has diverged from this trend, with Americans working longer hours than their European counterparts. This has created what they have called a "middle-class time squeeze," where dual-earner households struggle to balance work, family responsibilities, and leisure. Despite economic gains driven by increased workforce participation—especially among women—the rising demands of work, lack of paid leave, minimal vacation time, and high childcare costs have placed significant pressure on American workers. What could help alleviate this issue? 👉shorter workweeks❓ 👉 paid leave❓ 👉better childcare subsidies❓ 👉 flexible work arrangements❓ Is it time to rethink how we value time vs. work?
