Strengthening Perinatal Care in the Caribbean! Over 70 healthcare professionals participated in the "Improving Perinatal Care in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean" conference, organized by World Pediatrics, Rotary International, and @PAHO /World Health Organization Key topics included challenges and strategies to enhance neonatal care in the region. Proud to have co-hosted the Improving Perinatal Care in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean conference with Pan American Health Organization /World Health Organization and Rotary International! Over 70 healthcare professionals gathered to enhance maternal and neonatal care, addressing post-pandemic challenges and implementing new strategies. With 10 neonatal training teams, including a first-time team in the British Virgin Islands, we trained 400+ healthcare workers onsite and 280 virtually—ensuring more newborns receive the care they deserve. ✨Making History in Honduras ✨ World Pediatrics and its partners recently completed the first pediatric orthopedic traveling team for children with Osteogenesis Imperfecta in Honduras. 🦴💙 Led by Dr. Glen Baird from Shriners Children's Hospital in Spokane, the traveling and local surgical team included Dr. Alma Iris Castillo and Dr. Gerardo Napky. With support from Tawani Foundation and OrthoPediatrics, represented on-site by Francis Boudreau-Audet, surgeries took place at Hospital Materno Infantil in Tegucigalpa. Twelve patients were evaluated, and seven underwent surgery—strengthening Honduras’ role as a regional leader in advanced pediatric orthopedic care for children with brittle bone disease. Butterfly Ultrasound - Advancing Pediatric Care in Belize Access to advanced healthcare starts with the right tools. At World Pediatrics, we are committed to moving from best-practice to next-practice—leveraging innovation to transform access to pediatric healthcare. Thanks to our partnership with Butterfly Network, Inc. , our traveling teams in Belize are now using portable ultrasound technology to bring life-changing diagnostics closer to children who need it most. During a recent trip, this device made an immediate impact. Daniel, pictured below, had endured months of bloody drainage from an old surgical site. With the help of Drs. Sulkowski and Castello, and a quick examination using the Butterfly iQ3, the cause—a benign suture granuloma—was identified. Daniel’s condition was treated with a straightforward procedure, and within a week, he was back to being an active, happy kid, bringing peace of mind to his parents. By working shoulder-to-shoulder with partners like Butterfly Network, Inc., we’re ensuring that more children receive timely, advanced care—no matter where they live.
