🏆 We welcome Whisky Magazine's inductee number 102, Dave Broom, to our Hall of Fame 🥃 Dave Broom is a spirits expert whose writing is authoritative among amateurs and professionals alike. He has been writing for almost 40 years and has written for multiple whisky publications, including stints as contributing editor to Whisky Magazine and Whisky Advocate. He has also published works, one of which is The World Atlas of Whisky, a book that explores the work of more than 500 distilleries worldwide. Alongside his writings, Dave has produced films, including Cuba in a Bottle and The Amber Light, the latter of which was an award-winning exploration of whisky and Scottish culture. Dave also runs regular training and educational visits and acts as a taster and consultant on whisky products for brands. Learn more about our 102nd inductee below! Originally from Glasgow, Dave Broom is a spirits expert whose written works are authoritative among amateurs and professionals alike. Dave has been researching spirits for more than forty years — primarily whisky, but also gin and rum, to which he has devoted recent works. Dave has written for multiple whisky publications, including stints as contributing editor to Whisky Magazine, Whisky Advocate and scotchwhisky.com. He started thewhiskymanual.uk in 2020 and is also the whisky correspondent for jancisrobinson.com. A prolific author, Dave’s published works include The World Atlas of Whisky, which explores more than 500 distilleries worldwide and charts the flavour of whisky worldwide. First published in 2010, the third edition was published in 2024, rewritten to reflect the changing face of the international whisky industry. His other books include Whisky: The Manual, Gin: The Manual, Rum: The Manual, The Way of Whisky, and A Sense of Place. As well as his written works, Dave has made films including Cuba in a Bottle and The Amber Light, the latter of which was an award-winning exploration of whisky and Scottish culture. 🏆 We are thrilled to announce inductee number 101, Anssi Pyysing , into the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame! ✨ During our spectacular evening inside the grand Waldorf Hotel in London, we saw the latest inductions into the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame including inductee number 101 Anssi Pyysing. Learn more about our 101st inductee below: Anssi is the founder of Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery in Finland. A prominent figure in the Finnish and Nordic whisky scene, Anssi’s journey into the world of brewing and distilling began with a passion for high-quality beverages and a vision to create something unique in the Finnish market. In 1994, Anssi established the first Teerenpeli Bar in Lahti, Finland. The following year, he established Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery, initially focusing on brewing craft beers. The brewery’s success encouraged Anssi to explore the world of whisky, and in 2002 he founded Teerenpeli Distillery. In 2015, the distillery expanded with a second location in nearby Lotila, which produces approximately 100,000 litres of spirit per year. Anssi’s approach to whisky production is rooted in the use of local ingredients and traditional methods. The pure groundwater filtered by the Salpausselkä ridges and locally grown barley became the foundation of Teerenpeli’s whisky, giving it a distinct Finnish character. A vocal advocate for the Nordic whisky industry, Anssi promotes collaboration and innovation among distillers in the region. He aims to elevate the status of Nordic whisky, increasing its profile and respect in the global spirits market. In addition to his work with Teerenpeli, Anssi has been involved in various initiatives to support the local community and promote sustainable practices. Teerenpeli Brewery & Distillery is known for its commitment to sustainability, from sourcing local ingredients to implementing eco-friendly production methods with its own wood pellet power plant and upcycling former sea containers into whisky warehouses.
