April is #DaffodilMonth in Canada—an annual campaign led by the Canadian Cancer Society to raise awareness and funds to improve the cancer experience and help survivors live fuller lives. Over 1.5 million people across the provinces are living with or beyond the disease in 2025, while nearly 250,000 more will be diagnosed by year’s end. With nearly half of survivors in the workforce, employers play a pivotal role in shaping their cancer and recovery journey for the better—helping them return to work and reclaim their lives with grace, confidence, and ease. Yet sadly, over 70% of survivors feel their employers are unprepared to support them—while two in five fear the impact a diagnosis could have on their job and career prospects. Alleviating these concerns requires meaningful, sustained efforts from employers to create a workplace that supports every stage of the cancer journey—from prevention and early detection to treatment and recovery. Through a thoughtful, holistic approach, employers can drive better health outcomes, ensure a smooth recovery, and foster a more engaged, resilient workforce in the face of life’s challenges. April is #StressAwarenessMonth and #WorkplaceViolenceAwarenessMonth, presenting the perfect opportunity for organizations to reflect on their approach and commitment to psychological safety and risk management. In the US, new research shows that stress, burnout, and disengagement are at an all-time high—fueled by challenges related to physical and psychological safety at work. Findings from the 2025 WPO Psychological Safety Study reveal that workplace trauma, work-life balance, and conflicts with managers are top-of-mind concerns for US employees, underscoring the need for employers to take action. “Addressing the impact of workplace trauma and creating a culture where employees feel supported is essential for organizations committed to long-term success,” argues Dr. Kennette Thigpen Harris, LCSW, Chief Clinical Officer at Workplace Options. “In doing so, organizations cultivate a resilient workforce and a thriving workplace culture.” Download the full report for more insights: https://lnkd.in/eAnuBamq #WPOCares #PsychologicalSafety #PsychosocialRisk #InclusiveLeadership #EmployeeWellbeing #EmployeeEngagement #Resilience #OrganizationalEffectiveness #ExpertInsights #WorkLifeBalance #WorkplaceTrauma #SafetyAtWork #HealthAndSafety

At WPO, one of our core missions is to help organizations create psychologically safe and inclusive environments where people not only feel seen and heard—but like they truly belong. In today’s global workplace—where time zones, languages, and cultural differences can create barriers to connection—how can organizations move beyond surface-level inclusion to create real, lasting belonging? This is a question Rivkah Sherman, Certified Coach & Project Development Coordinator at WPO, explores in her article, “A Microcosm of Belonging Amidst Global, Multilingual Organizations: A Case for a Design Team,” published in the latest issue of the Organizational Development Review. Drawing from her experience leading a design team for an internal summit, she examines how such initiatives can help bridge communication gaps, spark innovation, and empower employees across worksites, regions, and cultures to work together in pursuit of shared goals. To dive deeper into these insights, Bob Batchelor, VP of Global Marketing & Communications, sat down with Rivkah in a new podcast episode, where together they unpack how organizations can put these lessons into action—enhancing diversity, fostering belonging, and unlocking the full potential of their teams. The first week of April kicks off Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Awareness Week, an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the unique challenges young adults with cancer face and how those in their communities can step up in support. With over 1.3 million cases diagnosed each year among 15- to 39-year-olds—the only age group to see a rise in cancer over the past few decades—employers are increasingly likely to encounter the acute or lingering effects of cancer as more survivors enter the workforce. To support them, leaders must recognize and address the heightened challenges these survivors face as they balance the weight of cancer with the pressures of launching their careers and transitioning into adulthood. Key steps include: -Encouraging young staff to embrace healthy living -Creating a culture rooted in trust, flexibility, and psychological safety -Mitigating hazards and psychosocial risks to reduce stress -Building a strong network of peer support -Investing in holistic support to ensure survivors’ seamless return and full recovery Read the article to learn more about how to support young adults with cancer in the workplace: https://lnkd.in/eV6G-Cpc Discover how Cancer Care Compass delivers comprehensive support to survivors returning to work: https://lnkd.in/e_6zvKF6 #WPOCares #AYACancerAwarenessWeek #Cancer #CancerSupport #CancerAwareness #CancerRecovery #PsychologicalSafety #PsychosocialRisk #ReturnToWork #Reintegration #InclusiveLeadership #EmployeeWellbeing
