In our last video celebrating Careers in Aging month, we hear from Talisha who took care of her grandmother when she became ill, which made her consider a career in aging! Now, as a lead housekeeper, she knows the impact relationships have with both seniors and those who work with them.

Making a Career Out of Caring
About us
Westminster Canterbury Richmond was founded in 1971 by the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches and opened in 1975. Westminster Canterbury Richmond was the first among Richmond-area retirement communities to earn accreditation by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (now CARF-CCAC), the independent authority that evaluates all aspects of a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). We have held that distinction continuously since 1987. Fewer than 15% of all CCRCs in America have accreditation through CARF-CCAC.

We were so very honored to have students from the Executive Master of Healthcare Administration program and Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan return again this year! They toured our facility and learned how we manage healthcare, assisted and independent living programs. The EMHA program at Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) in Taiwan recruits students who are recommended by their employers and have at least one year of working experience. The student body has various professional backgrounds, such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and accountants. In 2025, the EMHA program marks its 25th anniversary. The EMHA program is a two-year program that offers various courses with multidiscipline learning opportunities. One required course, " Issues in International Hospital Management," requires students to learn how the healthcare system is designed and delivered outside of Taiwan. Dr. Thomas Wan, the former Chair of the Department of Health Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), is in charge of the course. Since 2004, EMHA students at KMU have taken the course and visited various types of healthcare institutions in Virginia hosted by the Department of Health Administration at VCU every year, except for a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The lectures and site visits provide a first-hand experience for students to learn the differences in culture and the healthcare delivery system between the United States and Taiwan.
