Longtime Wesley Healthcare volunteer Betty Newberry was recognized this month for her incredible tenure – 50 years – of volunteering at Wesley Medical Center! “Her kindness, generosity and dedication have touched countless lives,” said Andrea Dodson, Volunteer Services manager, pictured here with Betty, center, and CFO Nicole Castleberry, left. These days, Newberry can be round working in Wesley’s “Our Children Are Special” program, using her talents to sew comforting pillows for Wesley Children's Hospital pediatric patients. Way to go, Betty!

Wesley Children's Hospital lights up the night in green this week in recognition of National Donate Life Month, a time to raise awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation; honor those who have given the gift of life through donation; and encourage people to join the donor registry. Donors save so many lives! In 2024 Wesley had 63 life-enhancing tissue donors, 43 organ donors and 118 life-saving organs transplanted. Wesley shows up for our community! Many thanks to Wesley colleagues, who proudly showed up for our recent scrubs/professional clothing drive for Dress for Success Wichita! We had dozens of bags packed with great work clothes to donate to this non-profit, which helps women get back on their feet with career services. And special thanks to infection preventionists Brandie and Karis, who showed up this morning to help us deliver the haul downtown.

Wesley Healthcare’s Trauma Department donated more than 100 cable-style trigger locks to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department Monday as part of a joint campaign with the Wichita Police Department and Wesley Children’s Hospital to raise public awareness of child-involved shootings. The locks will be distributed free of charge and with no identification required, and can be obtained at the Sedgwick County Jail, the Oaklawn Substation or any Wichita Police station, or from any sheriff’s deputy. #FirearmSafety #LockItUp #ProtectOurChildren #SedgwickCounty #Wichita

Dr. Kimberly Molik, a pediatric trauma surgeon at Wesley Children’s Hospital, joined Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan and Sedgwick County Undersheriff Keith Allen at a press conference earlier today to raise public awareness of child-involved shootings, which Dr. Molik identified as the fourth most common injury seen at the hospital. Wesley Healthcare’s trauma department is providing free, cable-style trigger locks to both departments for distribution to area residents upon request. Keeping weapons properly secured is one of the most effective ways to prevent children from gaining access to firearms in the home.
